Juanita Sanchez Carter, 90, passed with family by her side on Monday October 7,2019. Juanita was born in Socorro Texas, on Thursday December 27, 1928. Her parents were Delores, a Choctaw Indian and Raymundo, a 2nd generation Spanish immigrant. Juanita grew up on a ranch outside El Paso , after the death of her mother and was raised by her maternal grandmother. From age 14 to age 20, Juanita traveled the United States working odd jobs, until she settled in Memphis Tennessee. Juanita married and started raising her family. Juanita's passion and love for her children was only surpassed for her love of God. She was a founding member of Beverly Hills Baptist Church in Memphis. Juanita also loved to garden both for flowers and vegetables. She canned much of the garden bounty each year to carry her family through the winter months. She was an avid seamstress as well as working in the veterinarian hospital. Juanita had a passion for helping others and animals as well.Juanita came to live in Colorado with Elaine and her family in 2018, after a fall at her home. She is survived by her daughter Elaine and her son in law, John. She is also survived by 5 grandchildren: Syd, Megan, Cody, Ashley, and Miranda. In lieu of flowers, her family requests a donation be made to Denver Dumb Friends League in Juanita's name.
Here is the first prayer she ever taught me and her favorite:
Our Father, which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy Name. Thy Kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, As it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, As we forgive them that trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, But deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, The power, and the glory, For ever and ever. Amen.
