Juan's obituary

Juan José Garcia, 72, of Kansas City, Kansas passed away in his home on Monday, January 10th 2022. He was also lovingly known as Johnny, JJ, and Papa.

Johnny was born on April 22nd, 1949 to Antonio Solis Garcia and Asuncion Pacheco in Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico. He was one of 10 children and was a shy and quiet child who later became quite the opposite. As a teenager, he moved to Kansas City, Kansas with his family and attended Argentine High School.

He began his work career as a bus boy at the Muehlebach Hotel and then landed a job working for the Santa Fe Railroad. In 1968, he met the love of his life, Josephine (Josie) Mora, and they wed in March of 1969. He moved to her hometown of Ottawa, Kansas, and began working for Bendix Mobile Homes, specializing in sheet metal. When Bendix closed, he went on to work for Ottawa Truck, assembling truck engines. After a work-related back injury, he was forced into early retirement which disappointed him greatly. He was an extremely hard worker.

Johnny had a passion for baseball. In his earlier years, he was a well-respected player and coach in the local baseball and softball community. He was also a valued member of community bowling leagues. After experiencing health challenges in 2018, Johnny moved to Connecticut to live with his daughter, Angie, but missed his beloved Kansas City so much he chose to return upon his recovery. Kansas City was his favorite place on Earth, and he loved to be among his beloved Garcia family in the Argentine district. He had several favorite restaurants, which he often visited with his family, and enjoyed going for walks around his neighborhood each day.

Johnny was full of life and had a wonderful sense of humor. Those who met him enjoyed his company. His family meant more to him than anything else in the world, something he often showed in his words and his actions.

He loved to watch his Kansas City sports teams and the Kansas Jayhawks, and was an avid fan of action movies. He was devoted to the Virgen de Guadalupe, a dedication he shared with his wife Josie before she passed in September of 2000. He was always by her side, in sickness and in health. His favorite artist was Vicente Fernandez and his favorite dish was chile rellenos. He loved to dance, and was known to bust a move in grocery store aisles or walking down the street.

Johnny was an outstanding example of unwavering devotion, integrity, and unconditional love. Anyone who knew him knew just how much love he had to give. Johnny was preceded in death by his wife, Josie, parents Antonio and Asuncion Garcia, and brothers Mario and Andres Garcia. He is survived by his daughter Angie Kingston, son-in-law Chris Kingston, granddaughter Sophie Marion Mullikin, grandson-in-law Ethan Mullikin, and grandson Graham Marion. He was a pillar in their lives. He is also survived by his brothers Poncho, Antonio, Arturo, Victor and Danny; his sisters Lupe and Leecha; and all his nieces, nephews, godchildren, and their families.

There will be a visitation with the family on Saturday, January 15th 2022 at St. John the Evangelist at 1:00pm, followed by mass at 1:30pm. (2910 Strong Ave, Kansas City, KS 66106)

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Kindred Box. Kindred Box is a charitable organization that distributes donated ostomy supplies to support the care of uninsured and underinsured ostomates in America struggling with financial hardship.
