My mother was fiercely intelligent. Breathtakingly beautiful. She lived and died with a loving, fighting spirit. She was a warrior.

This woman walked with grace and loved well fills my memories with Joy.

My love and condolences to all.

My BFF, Charly. We loved the same books and movies, laughed at the same jokes, finished each others’ sentences. Every moment with Charly was a delight. May Doc and the family she loved so much heal remembering all the happiness and light that surrounded her.

I met both Charlie and Doc in a whirlwind of synchronicities that defy logic. We spotted his Red Sox cap as he passed our car parked near a home we had just that moment purchased. My husband is a devoted fan and instant  camaraderie was established. Quickly we discovered that they had lived in Arboles and knew my family very well. It was Charlie who connected us further as she recognized me from visiting my children’s father as he worked through his last days in the hospital. They were the only people he allowed to visit. Them and then me, his ex wife. They knew him and loved him for exactly who he was. Charlie told stories that day as we swigged beer making connections and bring me contentment for choosing Panamá.  That was one of her many super powers. Funny and quick witted, I found myself listening to her political opinions and discussing deep meaningful subjects as we walked the garden, shared lunches and watched sports. She’s beautiful in all aspects. Occasionally on a “dress up  night” she’d wear this long blue skirt, a deep blue shawl and bit of lipstick. He eyes gleaming and her stance elegant. Oh my, I caught a hint of how she had conducted her younger self. So sexy and playful. She talked of her children and grandchildren, politics, spirituality, her past escapades with Doc all the time making connections and drawing me into her story. I won’t think of her in the past tense. Her light and her humor still graces this plane in a mysterious Charlie way. I’m deeply grateful to have known her and had the pleasure of her influence on me. She loved and adored Doc and she loved her children each individually and collectively.

From the beginning Charly was self-determining. She was independent, unconventional,
bold and smart. While devoted to Laura, Kira, Dara and Doc, she maintained a distinctive originality.
Although much of her life was spent away from where we were born, there was a connection
between us that remained in memories and occasional conversations. As a sister Charly was really a Joy.
