Joyce met her childhood sweetheart, David, at age 14 while attending the Williamsport Area High school. After high school graduation , she received her associates degree in Arts from East Stroudsburg University. In 1974, they married and later had four daughters. Joyce was a homemaker and David started Mechtly Concrete Construction, Inc. Joyce designed the home that they built in Montoursville, PA. Later, David went to work for Young Life, and they moved to Williams, AZ.
Joyce was a homemaker, realtor, and member of the First Baptist church, who had worked for Young Life at Lost Canyon and loved helping others. She was passionate about naturopathy and holistic living. Her hobbies included art, jewelry making, design and architecture. In her constant quest for knowledge, Joyce started naturopathy school right before she was diagnosed with cancer. Her altruism included caring for her mother and brother after her father passed away in 2007. Joyce and her husband David celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on March 9, 2024, in Tijuana, Mexico at a cancer treatment center.
The family would like to express our thanks for everyone's support during this difficult time, and for the wonderful help and care given by Compassus Hospice and the First Baptist church. In lieu of flowers, donations to Joyce’s memorial fund are being accepted to bridge the gap between those who are grieving and those who want to support them, but aren’t sure how. Joyce was an advocate for the individual human right to choose your own health care in relation to traditional, complementary, and alternative health care. The battle with cancer was arduous, and the journey to receive care in a healthcare system that many would agree is broken, was just as difficult. Your donation will help with naturopathic medical expenses. Thank you so much in advance for your kindness.
