Joyce's obituary
Joyce Miller (Castle) passed from this life on Sunday, December 11, 2022, in Carmichael, California. Born to Ralston and Helen Castle in 1931, she led an interesting and friend-filled 91 years.
Joyce was raised in San Francisco and fondly recalled time spent with her family and friends. She married John E. Miller, a handsome young sailor, and began a family in Redwood City. John’s military service required the family to relocate to duty stations in Kodiak Island, AK and Philadelphia, PA.
In 1974, John suffered a debilitating stroke and the family returned to California. Joyce returned to the workforce with the USGS in Menlo Park. Joyce was a devout Catholic and was active in her parish wherever she lived. John and Joyce lived on the Peninsula as well as in Sonoma and El Dorado Counties until John’s passing in 2001. Joyce then spent 12 years living on the Oregon coast before returning to her native California.
In a bittersweet but meaningful way, Joyce spent the final afternoon of her life in the company of her three children. Joyce is survived by brother, Jack Castle and his wife Raegene; her children Chris (Debbi), Kate (Jeannette) and Bill (Jessica); her adored grandchildren Kristen (Jeremy), John Carl, Kalie, and Ralston; and her cherished great-granddaughter Sarah.
The family has planned a private ceremony and encourages that remembrances be expressed as a donation to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
