OBITUARY for JOYCE VIAN BEEBE
Written by Claudia Jean Beebe Stewart (her sister)
“ALOHA NUI LOA”
Joyce was born in Huntington Park, CA on August 5, 1943, to Frank Harold and Lois Elsie Beebe. She was their firstborn, and a ‘war baby’. She was later joined by three sisters.
Joyce graduated from Huntington Park High School in 1961. She attended BYU/Provo for a semester, but decided college wasn’t for her. She was anxious to get into the working world! Joyce worked for large firms in LA County, Orange County, BYU/Provo, Santa Barbara County, and Ventura County. Her favorite job of her entire career was working for Ventura County. Joyce LOVED the people she worked with at the County. They were her dear friends. Not just co-workers. She enjoyed sharing her love for Jesus Christ, with all those she worked with, in her own special ways. Joyce was a super party planner and chaired many fun-themed office parties with and for, her co-workers. They all loved Joyce!
She served in various capacities in her church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Her favorites were the years she served as Primary President and as a Ward Missionary in the Ventura II Ward. She developed many life-long friendships within her church family. She even called a couple of them her “Earth Angels”. She cherished these relationships. Those who knew Joyce would agree that her gifts were, her sense of humor, caring, compassion, and love. Joyce liked to make others look good. In her later years, she worked as an ordinance worker in the Los Angeles Temple, with her sister, Claudia, and her husband, David Stewart.
For over 30 years Joyce and her sisters (and one cousin) had annual Beebe Girls Retreats. We began them for our Mom, in 1989 after our Dad passed away, giving Mom a way to continue to travel. We just had to continue them, because we all enjoyed them so much. Joyce’s favorite Sister’s Retreat was in 2016 when we rented a home on the ocean cliffside in Laie, Ohau. Because of our Dad’s Hawaiian Mission, we were raised with the Spirit of Aloha. It became a part of each of us.
The David & Claudia Stewart Family most remember her simply as a part of our family. She was ALWAYS included in our many activities, celebrations, and even vacations! She felt a part of us, just as we wanted her to feel. Her nieces, The Stewart Girls (Tara Bigler, Tricia Young, Lanae Monson, and Cyndi Broadhead) called her Auntie “J”. And even their kids knew Auntie “J” was like another Grandma to them. Our BOND was great and sincere. We have SO MANY MEMORIES with our Auntie “J”, my sister……their Aunt!
Joyce, lovingly took care of our Mom, during Mom’s last years in mortality. Joyce retired from Ventura County in 2008. Joyce lived out her retirement days in her Ventura home, enjoying her various friendships, until May of 2021. At that time she decided to move to Utah, where she chose to live in a retirement home, The Charleston, in Cedar Hills. She had a stroke in December 2023, and subsequently passed away on April 25, 2024. In Lehi Utah. She was laid to rest in the Santa Barbara Cemetery on May 13, 2024, next to her parent’s graves.
Joyce has been missed for some time now. We love our ‘Joy-Dee’’ and wish we could have said goodbye to her, but due to circumstances beyond our control, that was not possible.
Joyce is survived by her sisters, Claudia, Debbie, and Linda. She is also survived by her Aunt Barbara Borup, many special Beebe & Borup cousins, and 14 nieces and nephews.
Joyce will always be in the hearts of her family, who loved her dearly. We will miss her love and humor, and her special touches.
Rest well, Joyce. With MUCH LOVE & Aloha!
