Joy's obituary
Joy Noelle (Drummond) Swearingin, 43, of Independence, MO, passed away on May 10, 2023, after a long and courageous battle with liver disease. She was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, and mother, and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Joy was born on December 27, 1979, in Grandview, Missouri, to parents Robert and Carolee Drummond. She grew up in a close-knit family and attended Grandview High School. Upon receiving her G.E.D. in 1999, Joy entered the workforce and held many positions in the food service and property management industries. She made many friends along the way. Joy had a passion for helping others, and she always went above and beyond to make sure those around her were taken care of.
In 2005, Joy married Ed Swearingin, and they welcomed their son, Miles, in 2007. Although their marriage did not last, Joy remained a devoted and loving mother to Miles, who was the light of her life. Thoughts and concerns for her son were always first in her mind and she did everything she could to ensure that he had a happy and fulfilling life.
Joy will be remembered for her love for life as well as her unwavering strength and resilience, even in the face of adversity. She fought her illness with courage and grace, never losing her optimism or her sense of humor. Her warmth, generosity, and selflessness will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Joy is survived by her son, Miles; her parents, Robert and Carolee; and her siblings, Rob, Cassie, and Daniel; as well as many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
A memorial service to celebrate Joy's life will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, June 3rd, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Overland Park, KS. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to help support Joy’s son, Miles Swearingin. Donations will be used for education expenses, books, and housing as he graduates high school and looks to his future in college. We are incredibly grateful for everyone’s love and support. www.everloved.com/life-of/joy…
