Joe's obituary
Joseph “Joe” Elwood Jordan Jr. of Ewing, NJ passed on August 12, 2023. He was born October 3, 1946, in Lewistown, PA to Joseph Elwood Jordan, Sr. and Betty Jean (Hetrick).
A graduate of Ewing High School, Joe served six years in the Army Reserves. He married the love of his life, Joanne Helen (Jasienski) Jordan on April 7, 1970.
Joe was an engineer at the New Jersey Department of Transportation for 44 years, where he created the myth of Johnny Snowplow while managing snow operations during over-time shifts in the weather room. He was also a well-known bartender at John Carroll’s and the American Legion Post 458 where he was known for his legendary ginger ale pork roll.
In his youth, “GTO Joe” was a champion C Stock race car driver. A championship fisherman, he also enjoyed hunting and as an expert marksman won several archery competitions. He was also a talented musician – playing both drums and accordion. No slouch with the cue, Joe started hustling in pool halls at 13, later becoming a competitive player in his late teens.
Joe’s love for his family was only rivaled by his love of the Pittsburgh Steelers. He never missed a game. He will be most remembered for his battle cry on the first fumble of every season - “THAT’S it! The season is OVER”, which could be heard throughout Steelers Nation.
In his retirement, Joe enjoyed nothing more than hitting Parx Casino to play poker and going out to dinner with his wife.
Joe is survived by his wife, Joanne, children Alicia (Andy) Hoffman, Nikki (Jason) Baker, Elizabeth (Ted) Schwing, Joe (Kelly) Jordan III, and Jackie Jordan. His beloved grandchildren Nick, Helena, Sophia, Ryan, Jack, Rachel, Casey, Alexandra, and Trey, 4 great-grandchildren and his sister Ruth Christine Korsak
Public viewing will be held on Friday, August 18, 2023, 10am – 12pm at Winowicz Funeral home 865 Brunswick Ave Trenton, NJ 08638 followed by a service at noon. Interment at St. Hedwig’s Cemetery, 500 Eggert Crossing Road, Ewing, NJ following services.
