Today marks two years that Josh is gone. Besides being bright and funny, he was the most caring person I’ve ever known. The world could use more of that love today, and we can honor him by sharing our love with others — family, friends, acquaintances and strangers.  I miss you.❤️ Joanne

I just found out today about the passing of Josh, my beautiful cousin Joanne’s husband. What a gorgeous obituary and incredibly full and sweet life.

Sending the deepest condolences and much love to Joanne and all who loved him.

Ryan Trammel: My condolences to you, your Mom, your family on the anniversary of the loss of your step-dad. He was important to so many

By circumstance, I’ve inherited a former patient of Josh’s. Do you know if your step-dad left behind a list of clinicians to take over his patients? Does anyone know?

Dear Joanne and Joshua’s family,
I want to express my sadness for Joshua’s passing away.
I have known Joshua for many years as a colleague in IIPA, as our president , also as a friend . I have appreciated and respected him a lot.
His solidarity, kindness , intelligence, wonderful sense of humor and personal elegance made the work with him a big pleasure. I have learned a lot from him, as a colleague and as a friend .
I want to express my gratitude for having meet him in my personal and professional journey and I want to express my solidarity with you Joanne and with the rest of the family.
I know how a big loss you are going trough.
With affection and sorrow,
Amaia
Josh was my freshman and sophomore roommate at Brandeis. It has always seemed utterly extraordinary to me that we were just thrown together, at the start of an irreplaceable friendship that endured for more than half a century. I have far too many wonderful memories to put down here, but I would like to share one of the earliest ones. Our first semester we took an 18th-century French literature class – the only class we ever shared – and the night before the exam both of us were looking for excuses not to study. So Josh taught me a game called Initials that he’d learned in high school. It was really, really silly: the winner was the person who wrote the names of the most famous people, though the process was just complicated enough so that trying to explain the rules to anyone else was inevitably, uproariously confusing. Josh always thought he could win by padding his page with baseball players (I know practically no baseball players) and New York politicians, but I could generally trump him `up with that I had to keep producing photos of them from the movie and Broadway reference books on my shelf in our dorm room. We taught the game to Joanne early in their marriage and to Ryan when he was in middle school, but most of the Initials matches we played through the years were cases of single combat, and they were fought with a great deal of banter and hilarity. The last time I saw Josh, over Zoom, he and Joanne and I played Initials.

Josh was a man of tremendous warmth, humor, generosity, sensitivity and depth. I loved him dearly and I will miss him for the rest of my life.

Goodbye, Joshua:
For 40 years you have been a good friend and colleague. The tears stream down my face as I write this note to our colleagues. My words are choked-up within me; there is so much I want to say to honor you -- to acknowledge your brilliance and tenderness as a psychotherapist; your consistent kindness; your playfulness and humor; and your dedication to the development and refinement of Integrative Psychotherapy. You were among the founders of IIPA and have given our Association 10 good years of leadership. Thank you for your dedication to our common projects. Most of all I want to acknowledge that the gift you have given me has been Your Wise Counsel. You have blessed not only me but many, many who have known you. Rest in peace. Richard Erskine
I know of few people in my life who are warmer, more caring, kinder that Joshua Zavin. We need more like him in this world.
