Josh's obituary

Joshua Louis Mathers Obituary, October 10, 1984-September 6, 2024

Joshua Louis Mathers passed on from his earthly existence to be with God on September 6, 2024, in Washington, DC. Josh was born on October 10, 1984, in Powell, Wyoming, the beloved son of Earl and Kallie Mathers and brother of Jonathan Mathers (Jessica), Julie (Mathers) Ashburner and Jena Mathers. Josh is survived by his three children, Malaki, Mackenzie, and Morgan. One living grandmother, Azalea Willis resides in Washington State as does his Uncle Ric Rademacher (Sydney).  Joshua was preceded in death by his grandparents, Earl and Millie Mathers, Grandfather Monty Rademacher and his wife Kristina Nicole Mathers. Joshua’s nieces include Mikayla and Miele Mathers, Maisie and Penelope Ashburner and two bonus nephews Evan and Kyle Harrington.

In addition to his early years in Wyoming, Joshua lived for several years with his family in Lithuania and Romania before spending most of his adulthood in Virginia. Josh was well known as a master woodworker and was highly skilled in carpentry, plumbing, window installation and various other construction trades. He was a person who could fix anything and took pride in his impeccable work, especially the beautiful craft items he produced. Josh was also a physically powerful man with an equally big heart who was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need.

Although Josh’s life was unconventional, he had a powerful effect on the lives of many people. Josh was passionate and knowledgeable about a number of things including music, contemporary issues, theology and philosophy. Josh was a patient man who had a great love and natural way with children and experienced immense joy in his relationships with all children.

Josh spent most of his last three years in a relationship with Jennifer Ott and her three daughters Ella, Harper, and Meadow.

It is with great sadness that we make this announcement, but we take much comfort in knowing that he is released from all the earthly things that caused him distress and now is home, at peace, with our eternal Father. A memorial service will be held for Josh on November 29th from 3-5 at The Foundry Church, 9800 Old Keene Mill Road in Burke, Virginia. The family will greet guest starting at 3:00. The service will begin at 3:30 and will be followed by sweet treats, coffee and tea with time for  fellowship.

All his friends and family are welcome. If any one in attendance would like to share a story or thought about Joshua, there will be time during the service and the family would love your participation!

In lieu of flowers, donations will be graciously accepted by Renewing Homes of Greater Augusta on their website Renewinghomes.org or via mail at P.O. Box 3152, Staunton, VA 24401. RHGA is an organization that Josh believed in and for which, on occasion, had volunteered.
