Joshua's obituary
It is with profound sadness that we say goodbye to Joshua David Hein, of Union, KY, who passed away on January 16, 2022.
Born in Atlanta, GA to David and Karla Hein on July 12, 1984.
He attended Oldham County High School and had a profound impact on the choral and drama programs, performing with the Madrigal Choir and All-State Choirs, as well as his work in musicals such as Damn Yankees, Oklahoma!, and the leading role in Pippin. Joshua went on to get his Bachelor’s degree in music education and Master’s degree in Choral Conducting from the University of Louisville, and was “all but dissertation” in completing his Doctoral degree in Educational Leadership from Northern Kentucky University.
During his time at the University of Louisville, Joshua sang first tenor for the world renowned Cardinal Singers. During his tenure with the group, he traveled the world and sang in festivals and competitions with some of his best friends in countries including Germany, South Korea, China, Taiwan, Vietnam, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Japan, and Cuba.
Joshua served as the choral director and music teacher for Larry A. Ryle High School in Boone County, KY for the last ten years, dedicating his time to rehearsing several choirs, as well as teaching humanities and music appreciation classes. As a teacher, choral director, and coach, Joshua set to work daily to impact the lives of his students and fellow staff members.
Joshua is preceded in death by his paternal grandfather William K. Hein and his maternal grandfather James Raab.
Left behind to cherish his memory; his two sons, Timothy and Barrett Hein, his mother and father; David and Karla Hein, brother; Jacob Hein and his wife Kelly, brother; Isaiah Hein, and paternal grandmother: Ruth K Hein.
Joshua’s Christian funeral service was held at 11 AM Saturday, January 29, 2022 at Ratterman & Sons Funeral Home, 3800 Bardstown Road, Louisville. Visitation was held on Friday, January 28 from 2-8 PM, and Saturday, January 29 from 10-11 AM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, a scholarship fund was set up for a Ryle High School Senior to attend the University of Louisville on a music scholarship.
