Josephine's obituary
Josephine Thompson Harris (affectionately known as Mama Jo-Matriarch), was a long-time resident of Mobile, Alabama. For many years, but spent her early childhood years learning, growing, and playing in the Grand Bay community She is the oldest child of SGT. Eddie Thompson Sr. and Delphine Jones Thompson of Grand Bay, Alabama. She never forgot where she came from and maintained contact with many of the people she grew up with. She was a true “daddy’s girl” and the “apple of her father’s eye” A very proud graduate of St. Elmo High School c/o of 1959 and loved to attend class reunions. Many have been delighted by the delicacies from her kitchen and she loved cooking.
Family was most important to her and special fun filled gatherings on her birthday and at Thanksgiving as well as Christmas were spent celebrating at her home. She was the mother of many and the mother of us all. She loved the title and wore it well. It made her smile. She wasn’t afraid of hard work and had her first real job at the age of 13. Her good sense of humor and quick with could change anyone’s mood. She strong abiding faith and fellowshipped with other believers, but found much love, joy, peace and a home at New Faith where she was welcomed like family.
Mama Jo transitioned to her heavenly resting place on December 3, 2022 at the age of 81. Predeceased family members include her parents SGT Eddie Thompson and Delphine Jones Thompson & Brothers Eddie Jr, Ervin, and Samuel Thompson. Mama Jo is survived by her stepmother Dardenelle T. Williams (Johnny); Sisters: Vivian Brown, Vannie Thompson, & Sharon Thompson; Brothers: Robert, Lemuel (Lisa), and Hubert. Caring nieces: Toccara & Tamarah Brown, Lisa Jackson, and Velvet Thompson-Johnson (Anthony). Devoted Goddaughter Lorraine “Shrimp” Sylvester (Earl), other Beloved Godchildren: Ida, Rumello, & Genage.
