Joseph's obituary
JOSEPH C. ZECKER – IN MEMORY
November 14, 1942 - September 2, 2024
Joseph C. Zecker, of East Hanover, New Jersey, passed away surrounded by his family on Monday September 2, after a brief illness.
A native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Joe worked his way up from stock boy in a five-and-dime store to an upper management sales executive with the G.C. Murphy Company. He courted the love of his life, Mary Christine Vaglia; they were married in 1965, and began raising their family of three girls. In 1982, following an opportunity with the Tofel and Clark company, Joe moved the family to East Hanover, New Jersey, where they settled for the rest of his life (punctuated by frequent trips back to see family and friends in his beloved Pittsburgh).
The consummate family man, Joe was devoted to his three daughters. In retirement, as a grandfather, he took great joy in spending as much time as possible with his grandchildren and being there for each and every milestone of their young lives. He was an avid mystery enthusiast who enjoyed watching Murder She Wrote, MacGyver and NCIS, as well as eating his favorite candy - Twizzlers, and spending time with his “grandpets.” Above all he was devoted to his beloved wife, to whom he had been married for 59 years.
Mr. Zecker is survived by his wife, M. Christine Zecker; his three daughters and sons-in-law: Jeaneen and Derek Jess of Somerville, NJ, Kimberly and Joe Bergamini, of Whippany, NJ, and Kristi and Tyler Wean, of Arlington, VA; and six grandchildren: Ashlyn, Kaleigh, Nicholas, Jennarose, Rowan, and Chase.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, November 29, 2024 at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church, 28 Livingston Avenue, Roseland, NJ 07068 at 11 am.
A celebration of Joseph’s life will follow at the Hanover Manor, 16 Eagle Rock Avenue, East Hanover, NJ 07936.
