Joseph's obituary

Joseph R. Snair, 84, of Baltimore, beloved husband, father, and brother, departed this life from natural causes on February 10, 2020.

He was born in Baltimore to Jennie and Robert Snair.

Joe was a military veteran, having enlisted in the United States Marine Corps towards the end of the Korean War. He guarded POWs as a military police officer at Guantanamo Bay Naval Base, Cuba, and was a founding crew member on the Honest John surface-to-surface artillery rocket system.

After his time in the Marine Corps, Joe was employed as a printer and compositor with The Baltimore Sunpapers. He also represented The Sunpapers as a "loaned executive" for several years during the city's annual United Way drive. He retired from the paper in 1996.

Joe had many, many friends. He was well-known for his volunteer activities at St. Dominic's Church (to include running the annual talent show), The American Legion (to include running the annual special needs dance), and Johns Hopkins Children's Center (to include visiting as Santa Claus). He enjoyed entertaining people with music and jokes. He loved to dance. He loved his motorcycle. He rarely stayed in one place for long.

Joe is survived by his wife, Lucille; son Scott Snair and his wife, Mary-Jane, of Ocean Pines, daughter Patti Koski and her husband, Matt, of Hydes, son Andy Snair and his wife, Angie, of Baltimore, son Kenny Snair of Baltimore, and son Jimmy Snair of Baltimore; sister Margaret Tawney and her husband, James, sister Bernadette Mullen and her husband, Tim; and loving grandchildren Patti, Katie, Luke, Noah, Ben, Grace, Marianna, Lucia, and Gia. He was preceded in death by his sister, Patricia Kresslein, and his brother, Robert Snair.

Joe donated his body to The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2020, at 11:00am, at Christ the King Church, 1102 Hart Road, Towson, Maryland, 21286. A gathering after the mass will take place in the Fellowship Building next to the church.
