Joseph's obituary

Joseph Evans Rogers, Jr, 80, resident of Oak Crest Village in Parkville MD, died on Friday, January 11, 2019 at Gilchrist hospice from complications of prostate cancer. He is survived by Gertrude (Brown), his wife of 54 years, daughters Elizabeth and M. Katherine (Leonard Dickens) and grandsons Alexander Dickens and Mateo Rogers.

Joe was born January 8, 1939 in Moorestown, NJ. He was a graduate of Moorestown Friends School, Haverford College (BA Chemistry) and Cornell University (PhD Chemistry). He served with many Quaker organizations over the years, particularly on the boards of Pendle Hill, FCNL, and Friends House.

Joe taught chemistry at Carleton College and Earlham College, before moving into administration. He worked as a Research Grant Administrator at the American Chemical Society for over 20 years.

He enjoyed birding and tennis, and a good fire in his fireplace. In lieu of flowers, please remember Joe by watching birds or otherwise enjoying nature. Donations may also be made in his memory to FCNL (https://www.fcnl.org/) Pendle Hill (https://pendlehill.org/) or your local food bank.

A memorial service will be held at Stony Run Friends Meeting (2pm on Saturday February 23). His ashes will be scattered at the Memorial Garden at Sandy Spring Friends Meeting in the spring.
