We connected most recently with Joe and Trudy when I (Francy) was serving on the Board of FriendHouse in Sandy Spring. We, ( husband Randy and brother Fred Swan) visited their home on the Eastern Shore and helped to cut up some wood for that fireplace. We also enjoyed watching the birds in the bushes surrounding the house. We have many common roots. Brother Fred and I grew up on the campus of Westtown School. Surely Fred and Joe faced off on the soccer field in those days. Randy and I met at Earlham as students in 1964. My brother Fred attended Haverford College with Joe. It was delightful to meet Elizabeth and Mateo who came to Frederick Meeting and to live in the Liberty Village co-housing community. Joe was so proud of them. We moved soon after they came to Frederick to live in Luray VA. Neither my brother Fred nor we will be able to attend the memorial. But we send all good wishes and will make a donation to FCNL in Joe’s memory.
Joe was a dear friend and classmate at Moorestown Friends. He represented all the finest qualities of a caring person and devoted Quaker. He will be greatly missed . Rest In Peace, my friend. Terry Mecray
My wife, Jean-Marie & I are Swarthmore College graduates; Joe never missed an opportunity to tease us in a loving manner about the fact that he was a Haverford College graduate, but at least I worked in a research lab at Haverford after graduation. Joe served as a devoted member of the FGC Finance committee and Central Committee and will be greatly missed. What a host he was when he invited us to spend a weekend with him and Trudi at the house by the water. I have lost a special Friend/friend. Thank you, Trudi, for sharing a great man with us all.
