Joseph's obituary
Joseph Petrie, 67, of Lenexa, KS, passed away on July 28th, 2022.
Joe was predeceased by his father, Jacob "Pete" Petrie, mother Velma Petrie, beloved sister Deborah "Kaye" Petrie, and close friend Cindy Butler. He is survived by brother Jonathan, sister Dee, sister Kathy and multiple nieces and nephews as well as great-nieces and nephews.
Joe was born at Olathe, Kansas Community hospital on June 15th, 1955, the third child of Velma and Pete and their firstborn son. He graduated from Shawnee Mission Northwest High School before moving on to KU, graduating with a Bachelor of General Studies. He eventually moved from Kansas City to Chicago to join his sister Kaye in the late 1970's. He absolutely loved movies and worked in the film industry in a variety of capacities while living in Chicago, before returning to Kansas City in the mid-1990's. In 1996 he took a role at Johnson County Community College in the TV department as a producer. Joe did well at JCCC, later becoming a professor of Journalism, teaching courses in Video Production while also serving as an advisor within the Student Media Center. For the last few years before retiring in April of 2022, Joe was the Video Lab Coordinator and a tutor. He was a dedicated brother, caring for his sister Kathy since the late 2000s.
He was loved by his family, his friends, his journalism colleagues and his students. He will be sorely missed.
Services will be held Friday, August 19th at Lenexa United Methodist Church in Lenexa, KS. 10am visitation, 11am funeral service, refreshments served in the fellowship hall immediately following.
