We mournfully announce that Joseph M. Opatsky, 79, of Summerville, SC, passed away on January 7, 2022 at Summerville Medical Center.

Joe was born to Benjamin Opatsky and Julia (Dudek) Opatsky on September 26, 1942 in Newark, NJ. Joe attended Irvington Technical High School until he graduated in 1961. He then went on to serve in the US Air Force.

One of Joe’s biggest passions in life was music. He was a self-taught guitarist, singer, harmonicist, violist, & songwriter. And he never missed an opportunity to use his talent to serve his church. Joe was a loving & supportive Dad/Grandpa who always made sure his “girls” were taken care of. He also had a soft spot for animals and loved spoiling them with treats.

Joe is survived by his wife, Ginger (Brown) Opatsky; daughters, Julie Opatsky Free, Patti Opatsky, Sarah Opatsky Carroll & her husband Tim Carroll; granddaughters, Caiti Newman and Ely Carroll; sisters, Patricia Opatsky Looloian & Christine Taylor; many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held 2pm Sunday, January 23, 2022, at Old Fort Baptist Church, 105050 Dorchester Rd, Summerville, with a visitation immediately prior to the service at 1pm. Flowers are welcome, or you may make a donation to Dorchester Paws in Joe’s memory.
