Joseph's obituary
Joseph Patrick Moroni, 71, of Oconomowoc, WI, peacefully passed away on December 01, 2022.
Born in Chicago, IL to Aldo and Gloria Moroni and raised in Oak Park, IL along with his eight brothers and sisters, Joseph grew up working in his family's restaurant, The Corona Cafe, in downtown Chicago. He attended Oak Park River Forest High School and spent his summers as a life guard on the shores of Lake Michigan.
After graduating high school in 1969, he attended Saint Joseph's College in Rensselaer Indiana and married MaryEllen (Crowley) Duchin of Elmwood Park, IL. He trained to become a chef and worked in the restaurant industry for many years. They had two sons, Matthew Moroni, of Oak Park, IL and Andrew Moroni, of Oconomowoc, WI.
In 1988, they moved to Oconomowoc, WI where Joseph spent many years working as a traveling salesman in the midwest. He was drawn to the beautiful lakes, kind people, and close community that Oconomowoc provided. He was elected Alderman in Oconomowoc in 1994 and served for 2 years. In 1997 he married Yvonne Marie (Greonevelt) Moroni. They spent many wonderful years at their home by Fowler Lake and were involved in many community events, such as the Oconomowoc Festival of the Arts. Joe loved making art as a creative outlet and his work was featured in several gallery shows throughout the country.
Later, Joe would go on to serve as President of the Oconomowoc Parks and Recreation Board for seventeen years, overseeing the preservation and development of Oconomowoc's parks and recreation areas. In the early 2000s, he purchased a hobby farm in Watertown, WI where he spent many hours enjoying the countryside while working on his farm, tending to his apple trees, and creating artwork.
He loved his family, his community, and life. He is survived by his loving wife of 19 years, Yvonne; his children Matthew (Rose) Moroni, Andrew Moroni, Ben (Meredith) Groenevelt and Katie (Mark) Dahl; his grandchildren Anna, Joe, Frank, Lexi, Whitney, Heidi, Lauren, and Amanda; and his siblings Harry (Barrie), Kitty (the late Thomas) Ryan, Frank (Catherine), Judy (Les) Martin Veatch, Molly, and Nancy (Paul) Bangiola. He is preceded in death by his parents Aldo and Gloria Trucco Moroni and his brothers Aldo and Jim (Rosemary). He is Further survived by many loving cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
