My father was a faithful Christian. I think this quote fits his beliefs: “So even if tomorrow is my last day, if all those I loved are waiting for me then that tomorrow will be a good day too.”

My Mom is Irish and my Dad was Italian. Even though he wasn’t feeling well, he still remembered to put out her St. Patrick’s Day figurines before he went to the hospital.
Had the pleasure of seeing Joe multiple times on a daily basis at the Kenilworth Diner. He was more than a regular at the diner, closer to diner family. Everyone knew him and everyone loved him. He was kind, loving and always had a smile on his face. One thing I always admired about Joe a was he always asked how my family and children are doing. From that I could tell he was a great husband, father and grandfather. RIP Joe. You will be missed.

From Matthew Russomanno:
Joe was a friend of mine when we started to teach at Broadway Jr in 1956. One day Joe said “would you like to meet my sister?” I said “Sure, is she nice?” He replied, “Go see for yourself “ and the rest is history. On another occasion Joe invited me to a retreat at the Loyola House of Retreats at Morristown. Joe was my retreat brother for the 50 retreats I made thereafter and Joe made 69 plus. Joe loved those retreats with his other retreat brothers: his father, Dominick, and Uncle Jerry. Michael, Gerald, little Gerald and me. He was a marvelous brother-in-law for over 60 years. Terri and I will miss him.We know he is with our Lord in Heaven. Love you
From Father Gene Marcone:
Joe Morano was certainly a good friend and will be missed by many.  Joe always made a point of excelling in the education field.  Another quality was his good example in keeping the Faith.  On one occasion, he and his wife Agnes, joined our group trip to France.  We visited the shrine of Lourdes  and it was truly a moving experience.  Joe manifested the joy of his being so very close to The Lord at that time. Joe was one us guys that palled around together in the Ironbound. May Joe see the face of God and rejoice. His reward should be great since his love of the Faith was of good example. May he rest in peace.
Sincere sympathy to the family and all will be remembered at Mass tomorrow morning.  St. Joseph pray for us.

Cousin Joe had a tremendous impact on me. I became a career educator because of him. He fostered my interest in teaching while I was in elementary school. Then, upon graduation from college, I started my teaching career in Newark. I will always be grateful for being given the opportunity to launch my career under his guidance and wisdom. I also followed his footsteps into education administration. Ultimately, my entire immediate family chose careers in school settings. Cousin Joe will never be forgotten.

Love you always,
Joe

My deepest condolences to all my dear cousins.
Joe was a great man of honor, honesty, loyalty and integrity.
I was blessed to have known him. His passing was truly shocking.
There are no words to express my sadness.
I will always remember him and his kindness.
Love always, Elaine and Family.

I am my father’s only child. I tested his tolerance by pushing the envelope into places he probably would have preferred I not go. Boy Scouts, Backpacking. Archery and target shooting. Soccer and track in high school. I even bought a non-GM car. Then my own apartment. And eventually, flying all over the world for IBM.

But he NEVER refused to buy me a book. He subscribed to any newspaper or magazine that I asked for. He taught me to read the paper every day. He taught me the value of hard work, and was very proud that my first job was as a custodian and that I worked a summer on 2nd shift at GM’s Hyatt Bearings, mopping cutting fluid from the floor. I was the last person in a long line of my family to work there.

I brought him newspapers from far away places that I traveled to, sometimes leaving them on his front steps on my way home from the airport so he could wake to a surprise. He taught me the honor and critical importance of taking care of those around you. He taught me the enormous value of keeping the faith in and focus on what is important and maintaining fortitude and resilience in the face of life’s adversity.

In his last wishes, he asked me to let him go and to take care of my mother. May he rest in peace . I will take over from here.

‘As for yourself, you shall go to your fathers in peace; you shall be buried in a good old age.’

I gave my Dad his last shave on Wednesday. Hot towels, witch hazel; the full treatment. It made him much happier.

50 years worth of memories...breakfast at the luncheonette, pie at the Kenilworth Diner, pig roast, fresh apples, green bagels, cream soda, train shows, Yankee games, making sure I studied for exams, then asking how I did. And always asking if I needed money....

Mr Morano always had a big smile and a friendly conversation for me whenever we had the occasion to see each other. After reading about his life’s work he has certainly earned his place in heaven. May he rest in peace.

Grandpa Joe, as my kids and I like to call him, was a smart, kind man who always had time to talk with you. He gave me wise, logical advice throughout my career in education. He always had a Christmas gift for my children when we celebrated Christmas Eve together each year at Deb and Mike’s home. He was very good to my sister, and loved his family tremendously. We will miss you, Grandpa Joe!❤️

Annual donations of Thanksgiving and Christmas turkeys to local charities and Sisters.
In response to "What act of kindness did you witness from Joseph?"
Joe, devoted himself lovingly to both family and charity. While Joe treated me as if I was his precious daughter, the center of his world from our generation was his son and my husband Michael. Joe and Michael navigated life together, putting Agnes , Greg, Elise and me in their center ring. Our family is eternally grateful to Joe. Rest In Peace, father-in -law. I will especially miss our preparations for Christmas Eve and the way you loved your very own dish of bacalao.
