Background
I cannot say enough about our experience with VITAS Healthcare in Lombard, IL.
From VITAS Medical Director Dr. Singh and Jack's wonderful nurse JoAnn, to Chaplain James, Catherine, Barb and our entire hospice team, they became our port in the storm during this sometimes terrifying and tumultuous year. No matter what...no matter when...VITAS was never more than a phone call away, ready to respond 24/7.
I am especially grateful to JoAnn, who lifted my dear husband Jack's spirits (mine, too!) with each visit and made us both feel extra special. And to Dr. Singh, who was never more than a phone call away whenever I had a question or just needed to talk. She is a gentle, calming spirit in the midst of the storm.
And one more thing.
Twelve years ago, during the last year of my Mom's life, I came to understand and appreciate the value of hospice services for the first time by working with VITAS. Different team. Same unwavering commitment to compassionate care and embracing families with a much-needed safety net to keep us from falling into the abyss of hopelessness and despair.
No family should experience the prolonged death of a loved one without the help and support of palliative and hospice services. In the future, should the need arise again, my first and only call will be to VITAS Healthcare.
