Joseph's obituary

Joseph William Genova, age 75, died December 29, 2022, at his home in Irmo, SC.  A Celebration of Life is scheduled on Sunday January 15, 2023, from 12:00 – 2:00 pm at Genova Family Karate School 130C Pontiac Business Center Drive, Elgin, SC 29045.

His hobbies and interests included talking sports and politics, especially with his friends Teddy Heffner and Gregg Mundy. Joe coached Rosewood little league youth baseball and was an assistant with a Shandon American Legion team in 1977. Joe was a member of the golf team at Dreher High School and played the game his entire life. He enjoyed playing video golf with his friend, Teddy Heffner, until his passing. Joe worked a number of years as a special correspondent for the sports department at the State Newspaper. He was also an avid basketball player at Columbia area parks. Joe played semi-professional football with the Columbia GreenWave of the old Dixie Football League on a team that went undefeated.

Joe is preceded in death by his wife Catherine Genova. Surviving are his son Joseph V.C. Genova of Alabama, sister Anna G. Leitner (Johnny), brother Frank Genova, brother Mike (Shelley) Genova, sister Maria Genova, brother Tommy Genova (Lin), sister Helena G. Bloom (Moxie), and sister Michelle Haley (Jeff) and many nieces and nephews.
