Heidi, Mark, Joe and I had a barbecue of chitlins, onions & bell peppers on English muffins. Mission Bay park, cool breezy day. We all were broke, but Heidi scraped this together for all us. Friends enjoying each other’s company. Joe was always so funny!
Joseph, thanks for all the great memories when we were kids in the late 70’s, in El Centro, Ca. Great times when we were young, free and did the dumbest things.
I was so shocked and saddened to hear, all these months later, that Joseph died in November. My heart goes out to you.
I worked with Joseph many times when he came to help out in Hugh Groman’s kitchen where I was the pastry chef for a number of years. I always enjoyed the days that Joseph was working across from me. He and I could convince our boss to set a Steely Dan song list playing, and we would spend the workday regaled by Joseph’s stories of his beloved girls ( he was so proud of you), past travels, and dreams of travels to come. I last saw him at Asher’s baby shower, and got a chance to catch up with him and hear about the years of ups and downs.
Joseph reminded me a lot of my own dad, a complicated character, and a loving, generous individual that never met a stranger. I am so sad to hear of his passing, and I know his memory will be a blessing to so many.
