Joe's obituary

In Loving Memory of Joseph Branco

Joseph Branco was a devoted husband, loving father, brother, Avo and a proud pillar of the Portuguese community. A man of style, deep passion and unwavering determination, Joseph lived his life with intensity, purpose, and heart.

He had a lifelong love for soccer, a sport that reflected his own spirit—disciplined, competitive, and fueled by teamwork. Whether watching a match, discussing strategy, or sharing stories, soccer was more than a pastime for Joseph; it was a connection to culture, community, and joy.

Joe was always active within the Portuguese community, where his presence was both respected and cherished. He took great pride in his heritage and believed strongly in honoring tradition, supporting others, and building lasting relationships. His sense of loyalty and commitment left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him. We will all miss sharing a Bife a Cavalo with him and although he didn’t have much of a sweet tooth, a pastel de nata.

The beach was one of Joe’s greatest places of peace. It was where he found calm, reflection, and happiness—drawn to the water much as he was drawn to life itself: with strength and resolve.

A fierce and driven businessman, Joseph was known for his work ethic, resilience, sharp instincts, and always dressing to impress. He came to this country alone as a young man, determined to build a life for himself. He put himself through Newark College of Engineering and, with trusted partners, went on to found EIC Associates—building his success through perseverance, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to hard work. Those who worked with him admired his leadership and determination. And to those who knew him well, we will forever smile remembering his unsolicited assessments of a building’s structural integrity or design.

Above all else, Joe’s greatest pride was his family. He is survived by his beloved wife and his two sons, who were the center of his world. His love for them was constant, protective, and unconditional, and his legacy lives on through the values he instilled and the memories they will forever hold close.

Joseph Branco will be remembered not only for his smile but for his dedication to each component of his life through and through, his ingenuity both in his personal and professional life, and his joy. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the honor of knowing him. We will all think of him when we drink a glass of Malbec, drive by the red turret roof that has iconized Bradley Beach, walk down a cobblestone street, or click on a pair of skis.
