Josie's obituary

Josefina Go Giok Pien Tan  何吳玉屏

April 16, 1939 - April 25, 2023

On April 25 at 3:49 PM Manila time, Josefina Go Giok Pien Tan passed away at Metropolitan Medical Center in Manila. A beloved wife, mother, and sister, she passed away peacefully. She had been admitted to the hospital three weeks ago and had recently celebrated her 84th birthday.

Josefina, or Josie as she was usually called, was born to the late Go Lian and Tee Gee on April 16, 1939 in Manila and lived all her life in Metro Manila. She was the second of eight children, with one older brother, four younger brothers and two younger sisters. She graduated from Hope Christian High School in 1957 and taught there from 1957 to 1959. She became a Christian in high school and later on regularly attended and served as worship service usher at United Evangelical Church of the Philippines.

She was known for being a strong woman, mother of nine children, and devoted wife to her husband, Frank Tan Bee Giok, whom she married in 1958. Together they raised nine children, six sons and three daughters. She worked for a time in her mother’s dress shop and then went on to be the proprietor of two businesses, Star Beauty Salon and Raquel’s House of Fashion, which she operated from 1974 to 1982. She continued to run the dress shop from home for several more years.

She suffered her first stroke in 1985 and by God’s grace, recovered almost fully. However, in the intervening years, she had multiple stroke episodes, including the last two in January and February 2023. At that point, her health rapidly declined. Her final days were filled with lots of music, including serenading by her husband.

She is survived by her husband Frank Tan Bee Giok, her nine children Andres, Benito, Catherine, Doris, Edmond, Frank, Gregg, Howard and Irene, her eleven grandchildren, Matthew Alvin, Joshua Erik, Keen Benjamin, Keen Joseph, Dawn Stephanie, Wynn Steven, Anne Isobel, Elise Joy, Nathanael Hudson, Genesis Jacinth, and Galilee Joyce, and her sisters Rosa Go Giok Hua and Rita Go Giok Tin.

Wake and viewing will be held April 27 to May 1 at Sanctuarium located at 739 Gregorio Araneta Ave, Quezon City, 1113, Metro Manila, PHILIPPINES.
