The company Christmas party was a work function that Josie looked forward to all year.  She always was so mysterious about what she was going to wear and made a grande entrance, with Mr Miller on her arm.  She lit up the room when she walked in.    I miss her smile and laugh.

Hi all. Thanks to everyone for the kind thoughts and prayers. I am not quite as over this as I'd like to be so I will not be attending the little get together today. I would hope that everyone can leave some sadness behind and have a fun time remembering and celebrating Josie’s life. Josie’s remains will be cremated on Thursday, April 20, without ceremony. The reason for the delay is that a permit from the state is required and, it appears that, every other day is a holiday for state workers. I can almost hear Josie’s voice now, “Pinche pendejo California”. Oh well.

I met Josie in San Diego when I was 19. Six months later we were married, fifty years later, death parted us. The truth is that death can only take away a loved one’s earthly remains. The magic that made Josie, Josie, will always be alive with those who knew her. We will never be apart.

Years ago, I heard that the best way to repay a selfless act of kindness is to pay it forward. When you find yourself in a position where a smile or a kind word can brighten someone’s day, don’t be afraid, just do it. That would be the best way that I can think of to honor Josie’s memory.

By now I would guess that God has some fresh, hot, flour tortillas with a big pot of albondigas, courtesy of Josefina. Celia Cruz music and Pacifico beer. Heaven is a little bit brighter. Thank you Josie. I miss you.
