José's obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jose Salgado Bustos, who left us at the age of 99 on February 27, 2025, just one day before celebrating his 100th birthday. Jose passed away surrounded by his beloved family, leaving behind a rich legacy that will be cherished by all who knew him.

Born on February 28, 1925, in Hamburg, Germany, Jose's journey to Sonora, Mexico, began at the age of 17. There, on the stunning coast of San Carlos, he found his true home and met the love of his life, Trinidad. Together, they built a family and a life full of hard work, love, and tradition.

Jose was the proud father of Narcizo, Stefany, Angel, Maricela, and Jose Jr. He was a dedicated grandfather to 18 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren, with each one being a source of immense pride and joy in his life. His love for them was unwavering, and he devoted countless hours teaching them not only the ways of the land but also the invaluable life lessons of hard work, perseverance, and integrity.

Known for his expertise in farming, Jose was highly regarded in Sonora and Sedona for his top-quality avocados, cultivated through Mission Avocados and Sunkist Farm orchards. His love for agriculture and horsemanship was evident in his dedication to his craft and his high-quality jockey horses, which became an integral part of his legacy. His horses, too, will miss the steady hand and gentle care he always provided them.

Jose's passion extended beyond the orchard. He found deep fulfillment in sharing his knowledge of ranch life, and his teachings of horsemanship left an indelible mark on the hearts of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His desire to pass on these traditions was at the core of who he was, and it is through them that his spirit will continue to thrive.

In keeping with his wishes, Jose's ranch will remain under the careful stewardship of his grandkids—Nayeli Hidalgo Bustos - , Juan Hidalgo (husband) Ana Belem, Elizabeth, Sarai, and Abigail (daughters). Along with Belem Monjaraz Bustos and her husband, Bolivar Monjaraz, and their sons Bolivar Jr. and Emiliano, as well as Angel Salgado Bustos, his wife Marissa Bustos, and their son Kevin Paul. Together, they will honor his vision of continuing the orchard business and preserving the family name for generations to come.

Jose's legacy is one of dedication, love, and unwavering commitment to his family, his work, and his heritage. He will be deeply missed by his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. The family extends their love towards all the ranch employees as each and every one of them were treasured by Jose and thanks them for their continued loyalty .

A private memorial service will be held at the Sedona Ranch -3221 N State Route 89a Sedona, AZ 86336 on March 8th, 2025 at 3:30pm, followed by a celebration of life the family had made arrangements for prior to his passing. Where Jose spent so much of his life, surrounded by those who meant the most to him and to rest in peace alongside the “Apple of his eye” his beautiful wife Trinidad. A small intimate service will take place in San Carlos March 10th, 2025 for family and friends that are not able to join us in the states.

In loving memory, may his legacy continue to inspire all who knew him.
