Jose's obituary
Jose Carlos Pallares Jr was born in New Jersey on August 3, 1964. At age 8, the Pallares family moved to Phoenix where he was raised in Catholic tradition and attended St. Francis Xavier Elementary School. Jose made friends easily, both with other children and adults. His genuine friendliness won over everybody he met, even the strictest nuns! He was adored for his kindness and good manners, and he was respected for his brilliant intelligence. Jose developed a love for the outdoors and introduced his family to camping and fishing. His childhood was idyllic, full of fun and love.
Jose attended Brophy College Preparatory where he excelled at his studies and contemplated someday practicing medicine or law. He always achieved straight A’s. However, this was the early 1980’s so there was plenty of fun to be had! He enjoyed parties with his friends, especially “boon-dockers” where he could romp around the desert in his orange and white Jeep Cherokee. He took on the nickname “Chuck” although his sister called him Carlos and his father called him Chato. His lifelong love for all kinds of music began in high school when he enjoyed everything from Guns n Roses and Jimi Hendrix to Grateful Dead and The Cars. His enjoyment of music was boundless and festive. As such, he practiced a life full of merriment and festivity. He graduated with honors from Brophy in 1983. His instructors and fellow students were joyous for him but would miss his extraordinary persona.
Having been accepted to several colleges, Jose selected the University of San Diego and completed his undergraduate studies in 1987. He chose a profession in law and graduated from USD’s School of Law in 1990. Jose loved his years living in San Diego, one of his favorite places on earth. He immersed himself in the diverse culture of Southern California with food and music, always trying new dishes and seeking new sounds. Jose loved sports, especially football. He loved body surfing and made the beaches of San Diego his 2nd home. During his years in San Diego, Jose met extraordinary people and developed cherished friendships that would last the rest of his life.
After graduation, Jose passed the bar exam in Arizona, California, and Nevada. He considered his options, ultimately accepting a position as a prosecutor in the Clark County District Attorney’s Office. His family was so proud and excited for him! Jose’s 33-year career was full of ups and downs, changes, challenges, and accomplishments.
Jose and Michelle Elliot married in 1998. They enjoyed a 9-year marriage but always remained caring of each other. Jose was absolutely delighted when their son Dominic was born in April 1999 and was over the moon when his daughter, Vivian, was born in September 2001. Jose’s love and pride for his children was profound and everlasting. He often commented on how amazed he was by their self-confidence, drive, and many accomplishments. Jose’s final years were shared with girlfriend Joleene Altum who cared deeply for him.
Jose passed away peacefully in his sleep on November 9, 2024. He was predeceased by his parents, Dr. Jose Carlos Pallares and Lilly Pallares. He is survived by son Dominic Alejandro Pallares, daughter Vivian Isabella Pallares, their mother Michelle Elliot; sister Lilly Pallares-Norman; brother-in-law William Reid Norman; and girlfriend Joleene Altum.
