Jose's obituary

Jose H. Chavez Jr. was born on July 17, 1929 in Bulan, Sorsogon, Philippines.  He was the third of nine children born to Jose (Sr) and Aniana Hinto. He met the love of his life, Beata Chavez (nee. DeVera), whom he married on March 15, 1954.   Jose & Beata gave life to four children: Romeo, Ramir, Rey & Maria.  Jose led a successful career in Finance Administration before immigrating to Canada in June of 1987 with his wife Beata and daughter Maria.  There they joined his eldest son Romeo & his family and settled in Winnipeg, Manitoba to begin a new chapter in the Chavez family. While in Canada, Jose had developed a keen interest in the popular sports in Canada, including Golf, Tennis, Basketball, Baseball and Hockey.  Jose and Beata Celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary in 2004.  Jose and Beata remained permanent residents in Canada but returned to the Philippines in 1992 & 1997 to visit loved ones and in 2012, to attend the funeral of their son Ramir.  Jose was predeceased by his loving wife Beata in 2018, whom he loved very dearly.  Jose remained in Canada until 2022, when he had decided to return to the Philippines to live out the remainder of his life.  Jose passed on September 2, 2023, surrounded by loved ones.  He is survived by his children Romeo (Eden), Rey (Melinda), Maria (Bayne), his grandchildren Rhoden (Sounaly), Chris, Romeo Jr. (Gisele), Christian-James, Christine (Frank), Ian (Casara), Christina, and his numerous great-grandchildren. Jose will be remembered for being a caring father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who, without hesitation, always put the needs of his loved ones far above his own.  Although Jose is no longer with us, his spirit will live on within the hearts of those who loved him.

The wake was held in Sanctuario Divino Molino, Cavite, Philippines for three days,  September 3-5, & the internment was on September 6, 2023.

We would like to thank everyone for attending the wake, for the prayers offered, thoughts and kind words shared with us.  We sincerely appreciate all the sympathies and condolences.
