Jorene Charcoal-Combs

September 14, 1936 – June 3, 2025

Jorene Charcoal-Combs, age 88, of Oklahoma City, passed away peacefully at home on June 3, 2025.

Born on September 14, 1936, in Geary, Oklahoma, Jorene was a proud member of her community and heritage. She attended Concho Boarding School, where she began to form the strong, resilient spirit that would define her life.

A devoted mother, Jorene raised five children on her own—a true testament to her strength, dedication, and unconditional love. She cherished time spent with her family, often bringing everyone together to share stories, laughter, and love. Her spunky personality, infectious laughter, and quick wit brought joy to all who knew her. An avid OU football fan, she could always be found cheering on her team with spirit and pride.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Francis Charcoal Sr. and Mattie Blind-Charcoal; her siblings, Francis Charcoal Jr. and Elizabeth Franks; and her beloved son, Larry Dean Charcoal.

Jorene is survived by her children: Larry’s wife, Quahlahtah Charcoal; Francine Vise; Gerald Combs and his wife Christy; Dennis Combs; and Merrell Combs-Alarcon and her husband Guillermo (Willie). She is also lovingly remembered by her grandchildren: Yadeka, Wakiyah, Yanasa, Kemah, Myhayv, Jared, Sherakee, Micah, Sandra, Legend, Asa, Ian, Hayden, Audriana, and Wisdom; along with her 17 great-grandchildren, who brought her endless joy.

Visitation with the family will be held at Benson Funeral Home, 100 S. Barker Ave., El Reno, Oklahoma, on Monday, June 9th, from 6–8 PM. A funeral service will follow on Tuesday, June 10th at 1 PM, also at Benson Funeral Home, with burial immediately afterward at Concho Cemetery. A meal will follow the services at the Emergency Response Center in Concho.

Jorene’s legacy of strength, laughter, and love will live on in the hearts of all who had the honor of knowing her.
