Jonathan's obituary

Jonathan Mark Umfleet, 53, of Newberg, Oregon, passed away on May 9, 2023, due to a tractor accident at home.

Jonathan was born on June 4, 1969, to Leslie "Bud" Everett Umfleet Jr. and Janet Lynne (Eide) Umfleet in Portland, Oregon, but lived his whole life in Newberg. At the age of 5, he prayed with his mother and began his lifelong journey with Jesus Christ. After graduating from Newberg High School in 1987, Jonathan went on to attain a bachelor’s in international studies and business, as well as a master’s in business administration at George Fox College (now University) in 1995.

In 1987, Jonathan met Laura Ann Zimmerman of Kelso, Washington, at George Fox College. They married in 1991. Jonathan and Laura have three children: Marc, Alison, and Levi.

Upon graduating from George Fox, Jonathan began working for Climax Portable Machine Tools in international sales for several years, and then A-dec in Newberg for over 20 years, primarily as a project manager. He was fluent in Mandarin in college and was often sent to Asia for business in his early career, before scaling back on those trips so that he could spend more time with his young children. In 2019, he left A-dec and worked for Lightspeed Technologies for three years before moving to a role as a senior product manager with CUI Inc. in Tualatin, Oregon.

Jonathan was a man of many facets who threw himself wholeheartedly into everything he did. He loved his wife and family and loved spending time with them, from their weekly family dinners to annual trips to Fort Stevens. He was a passionate supporter of the Second Amendment and taught firearms safety to many people over the last 25 years. He served as the President of the Chehalem Valley Sportsman Club in Dundee, OR, for 27 years. He improved his skill with handguns in United States Practical Shooting Association handgun competitions. He enjoyed and excelled at mixing and recording music and was a DJ for several years, continuing to run the soundboard for local churches until his passing. He played bass guitar for worship bands and, in his younger years, he was an accomplished violinist. From 2004 to 2011, Jonathan raced his motorcycle at Portland International Raceway. In 2022, he and his wife purchased his childhood home and spent this last year remodeling and updating it. He lived his life intentionally, trusting in God and serving others in so many ways.

Jonathan was predeceased by his father, Les “Bud” Umfleet. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Laura; three children, Marc (wife Andrea), Alison (boyfriend Jack) and Levi; his mother, Janet Umfleet; his sisters, Lynne and Kris; his brother, Steve; and his granddaughter, Rylea; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and treasured friends.

Services will be held at Bauman Auditorium - George Fox University on June 3, 2023 at 10 am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made online at Everloved or checks be made directly to - First Federal Savings and Loan, ATTN Jonathan Umfleet Memorial Account, P.O. Box 688, Newberg, OR 97132.
