I wanted to share my condolences on this very painful anniversary date. It is beyond sad that Jonathan lost his battle to mental illness. The greater the love the greater the loss. There is no doubt how deeply you loved him. May he rest in peace.

As an avid tennis player I met Susan, Jon's mom in 1995 when I joined a weekly tennis group. We all shared the triumphs, joys and struggles in our lives over what is now almost 30 years. Jonathan was one of the joys in Susan and Dave's lives. Not only did I get to hear about his milestones and accomplishments, I got to meet him casually at parties, events and get-togethers. He always had a generous smile and kind demeanor. Just a few months before his passing, he was at his home when Susan hosted an afternoon get-together for the "girls," - He spent a significant amount of time chatting, laughing with all us, -- the "old ladies". Gretchen was loyally at his side and it was evident the bond they shared. I marveled how mature a man he had become. I am deeply saddened for Susan and Dave as this tragic and unimaginable loss. Depression is an invisible condition and so often undetectable. I understand the pain of a feeling of such hopelessness as one where there is a feeling on no way out and the simple desire for peace. I hope there is solace that is now resting in the peace he so desperately wanted, AND strength and courage for Susan, Dave and Rachel to go forward knowing that although their lives will never be the same, they were loving parents and the memory of Jonathan will forever be in their hearts and soul. Jonathan will always be a blessing and they were a blessing to him.

I met Jon through a mutual friend in 2011 while he was visiting friends in Boston. We hung out a few times the following summer. During our short time knowing each other he was extremely funny and incredibly kind. I hope he is at peace and I send my condolences to his family and close friends.
