Thanksgiving - BB's - and a g…
Thanksgiving - BB's - and a gopher. In 2010 while Jon was in Afghanistan for his first deployment, I would find these PVC BB's in the yard in random places. Jon and his buddies used to play war-games with their airsoft guns. It always touched my heart to find these while he was half-way around the world taking fire from the enemy with real bullets. So I would pause and pray for Jon as I looked forward to his return. Earlier this week I found that a gopher had set up residence in my lawn. I set a trap and caught it that night. While cleaning up the dirt from the hole, I found one of these BB's. So there I sat, a 72 year old man, searching through the bucket of dirt and I found these 10 BB's. Some tears did flow. So today I am thankful for the gopher for digging up those BB's. They have been harder to find, but they show up once in a while and I put them in a bottle. Not long ago, little Ainsley Pulford (2 1/2 years old) came up to me and said, "A Jonny BB", as she held a yellow one in her little fingers. Today I am profoundly thankful for Jon's mom Cindy, his sisters Kimberly and Lindsay, Jon's fine brothers-in-law, Justin and Andrew. I am thankful for Jon's nieces and nephews; Brooklyn, Lyla, Jude, Havyn, Levi, Journey, Ainsley, and Victory. And I am profoundly thankful to my Lord for the 33 years and 141 days that I had the privilege of knowing Jonathan William Buchan and being his dad. I miss you every day, my son.

I found out about Jon’s death today. It has been hard. I am sorry I did not get to see him again for a hike in town or a hug. Sending my condolences to his wonderful family.

I knew John when we were young; he was 20 and I was 21. As his ATL (Assistant Team Leader) we weren't necessarily friends because I was responsible for him. Even though we weren't friends we spent a lot of time together training and fighting, and in that time, I was able to know him in a special way. He was the strong silent type that spoke passionately through his actions. Even in the most intense combat situations I cannot think of a single moment where his composure or his spirit fell. He was undoubtably the strongest member of our platoon, but he never allowed that to define who he was. With tremendous strength and grace John moved mountains.

Keep playing those bag pipes, John!

I miss Johnny’s big, compassionate smile. His deep voice saying”, hey Uncle Bradd.”  Happy birthday, Jonathan.

We miss you Jon😘 Love Uncle Bradd and Auntie Debbie!!

I miss jon so much and I can’t believe he’s been gone a year. I see him often in my mind and picture him in perfect condition now. I wish I could be there sitting next to him eating a pomegranate. We will be one day… My heart is still breaking, as I know all of the Buchan families as well. These are the assignments from our Lord, so we can count on him to help us carry it out until we join him. I love the buchan family like they were blood. I share in your grief. Love your faces.

Since Jon was young, we've sat together somewhere on a hill and eaten a pomegranate. One of the very last things Jonathan and I did together was to sit on our bench in the front yard and share a pomegranate. It was Jon's idea. This Christmas morning I sat on the hill at Jon's spot on the hill and ate a pomegranate. This was Jon's first Christmas in the presence of our Saviour. I miss you, my son. (This post delayed due to technical difficulties)

Happy Birthday in heaven Jon.!!! We miss seeing your face. We love seeing all the photos of you and hearing your family share memories of you. Your parents and sisters have been such an inspiration to us in their faith.

Well we knew John as a family friend and growing up and raising our sons on the same street , our oldest son Dustin and Jon would ride bikes together and were buddies all thru schools till we moved out of state and Jon actually came with us to help move and his dad and sister came up later to pick him up . We love the Buchan family so much and pray for you all daily ! We will miss him always and keep all memories close to our hearts ❤️
I am deeply saddened to learn that another brave soldier was lost. I am a Canyon High ‘07 grad myself, and while I did not know Jon personally, I want to let his family know that I have lost 2 soldier brothers in similar circumstances. My brother PFC Stephen Colley took his life in 2007 shortly after coming back from the Middle East, and my other brother Major Alan Colley took his life 10 years later in 2017. What soldiers see out there is beyond comprehension. Sadly, my younger brother also chose to go to heaven in 2021. I say this all to tell you that it is possible to still find joy after unimaginable grief. And there is a community out there of folks who understand a traumatic loss. Take care of yourselves and eachother. I will keep you all close to my heart.
Today..(and most days) I'm just so sad about your passing.. I pray for the Lord's comfort and guidance in  how to  live with honoring you, with honoring the Lord and honoring myself... I struggle in the dailies of  where I am in the midst of  doing and living  the life that I live here , this side of heaven with joy and purpose. It's often rough, unsettling,  disheartening.  BUT..I WILL trust the Lords goodness,  kindness, faithfulness AND love. I will  trust He catches every tear  in the palms of His hands for His glory and my good.  HE is in the restoration business... And with that I can have hope.   This also is the prayer of my heart for my dear friends,  as you navigate how to live this life w/out your precious Jonny boy. I pray for the Lord's joy that is unearthly and gives you/us the freedom to trust in Him an still live well today, even with a sad and broken heart.

Please accept my deepest sympathy for the loss of your precious Jonathan.   What a wonderful young man he was!  His service was a beautiful tribute to him and the family & comrades that loved him so much.  Lord Jesus bless you and keep you in His loving arms. ~Kathy
This is Cathy Dougan.  17 years ago Jonathan played the bagpipes at my husband's memorial service.  It meant so much to me and my daughters, Christina and Amy.  It was really on my heart to attend the service today and I am so glad I did.  What an amazing tribute it was.  Every speaker had experienced such a relationship with Jon and described him beautifully and tearfully.  Ken's closing was such a tribute to his fine son.  And the two things that I especially applaud him for was sharing the gospel and urging anyone who needs help to seek it.  This is a day I will never forget.  Jon was there for me 17 years ago and today I had the honor of being there for him.  God bless your family. 🙏💜

This is how I’ll always remember him. I’ve seen so many people say it, that smile. It was infectious. It had this power to change emotion, you couldn’t help but feel happy when you saw it. From the moment I met Jon, I knew what a special presence he was in this world. I love you Jonathan, forever and always.

Condolences and prayers for you all.

Loved Jonathan's bagpipe playing at SHS ROP Fire Academy ceremony.  (Ben Narez was in too).  Had a nice smile too. Shared a story of event in ROP.  Thankful for his service(s).

Love you Jon
