Jon's obituary
Jonathan Clyde Albert, a loving father, husband, brother and friend, at age 69, was called home to Heaven after 9 years of living with Alzheimer's Disease, on January 27th, 2022.
He was born on December 10, 1952 to William Sr. (a pastor) and Martha Albert (a nurse) in Orlando, FL. Young ‘Jonny’ was described as a “daydreamer” by his elementary school teachers on his report cards, and a student who needed to be given a challenge. His days as a school boy were full of spunk. After graduating from Boone High School in 1970, he went on to Florida Technical College where he graduated, class of 1975, with a bachelor's degree in Respiratory Therapy.
Jon spent all 43 years of his professional career in health care, first as a Respiratory Therapist, then advancing as a Supervisor, Director of Education, and Director of Respiratory Therapy, while also teaching Healthcare Emergency Incident Command Systems, and serving as a Member of the Advisory Committees for Respiratory Care at Valencia and Seminole Community Colleges.
He was a lover of animals and watching the weather, a talented musician and an avid waterman. In 1978, Jon taught himself to play bass on a stand up bass guitar while hanging out with Respiratory Therapist friends and guitar players Chuck Ostner, Richard Shenk, Mike Peterson and Kenny Snyder. In 1980, Jon's youngest brother Dave joined as the drummer and “Cypress” was born evolving into a country rock and 80's rock band. This began a 15 year journey that gathered a loyal following with ‘the boys’ frequently featuring Jon’s soulful baritone. Cypress highlights included TV telethons, a large Doctors event for Lucerne, numerous nights at Gino’s Oyster Bar with most of the Hospital in attendance, as well as many recording sessions at Mike and Kenny’s in Atlanta.
As a passionate waterman, Jon could often be found on the water, boating, fishing, skiing, sailing and SCUBA diving. Jon also made it a point until the very end never to miss watching a sunset - especially one over the water. He could have started a sunset photography gallery with all of the photos he took.
Jon and Kathy were married for 9 years following their wedding in 1980, and they had a son, Ryan. Jon and Sara recently celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary, as they were married in 1991, and together they had a daughter, Melissa, and a son, Matthew.
His family meant more to him than anything else in the world, something he often mentioned, and he was always quick to show off a picture or two. He was unendingly proud of Ryan, Matt, Melissa, Sara and his grandchildren and always did his best to support them. If you asked his brothers, Bill and Dave, about their memories together they'd tell you all kinds of stories about their land and water adventures, and all the ways the "Flying Alberto Brothers" made mischief. Anyone who knew Jon had likely admired his sense of humor, his contagious laugh, and knew that he was the most loving father, Papa and husband a family could ask for.
Jon was predeceased by his parents, William Sr. and Martha; his step-mother, Marian and sibling Sharon McLelland. He is survived by his wife, Sara; his children, Ryan (and wife Kim), Melissa (and husband Justin), and Matthew; his grandchildren, Sophia, Audrey and Weston; his brother Bill (wife Kathleen), Jennifer, Lindsey and Jacob; his brother Dave (wife Cheree), Evan and Jesse; his siblings Ardyce and Vonnie; and Sharon’s children, Lynda, Marty, Sherri, and David McLelland.
The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations might be made to the Central and North Florida Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association.
There will be a memorial service, Sunday February 13th, 2022 from 1pm - 2pm at E3 Community Church, 7308 Pershing Avenue Orlando, FL 32822 and all are welcome.
"Don't let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me. There is more than enough room in my Father's home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am. And you know the way to where I am going." John 14:1-4
