Jon's obituary
In Loving Memory of Jon Wilson
Jon Martin Wilson, a beloved father and grandfather, esteemed attorney, and passionate sports enthusiast, passed away on December 22, 2023, in Los Angeles, CA. He was born on January 13, 1945, in Marion, Ohio, to proud parents Ellis and Helen Wilson. Growing up in the heartland of Ohio and Wisconsin, Jon's journey through life was marked by remarkable achievements and enduring relationships.
Jon was a distinguished alumnus of Wake Forest University, where he graduated in 1967. A skilled and dedicated athlete, he played football at Wake Forest, earning the prestigious role of starting quarterback. He furthered his education at the University of Wisconsin Law School, graduating in 1971, and embarked on a prolific legal career that spanned decades.
Professionally, Jon achieved great heights as a named partner at Van den berg, Gay, Burke, Wilson & Arkin, which became the Orlando office of Foley & Lardner in 1985. Over his 25 years with Foley & Lardner in Orlando and Los Angeles, Jon maintained an active practice as a trial attorney and served as the Chair of the Litigation Department from 2003 to 2009 and was a dedicated member of the Management Committee from 1998 to 2007. After a brief attempt at retirement, Jon joined Broad & Cassel (Nelson Mullins), where he continued to contribute for several years as Of Counsel. Admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court and all courts within the states of California and Florida, Jon was widely respected for his legal acumen.
Beyond the courtroom, Jon found joy in an active lifestyle. An avid golfer, runner, and snow skier, he embraced the exhilaration of sports throughout his life. Jon's greatest happiness came from watching his children and grandchildren participate in various sports, creating cherished memories that will endure through generations.
In the last few months of his life, Jon rekindled his love for golf, enjoying several "three-generation" rounds at the Los Angeles Country Club. His zest for life, determination, and commitment to family defined him till the very end.
Jon was preceded in death by his mother, Helen, his father, Ellis, his sister, Judy, and his daughter, Kimberly. He is survived by his son Todd, his grandchildren Avery and Jax of Pacific Palisades, California and his brother Robert of Marion, Ohio.
To commemorate Jon's life and professional accomplishments, Todd will be hosting a reception on Sunday, January 21, from 2-4 pm at the Country Club of Orlando. Together, let us celebrate the legacy of a remarkable man who left an indelible mark on the legal profession, his family, the community, and the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
