I’ve had the privilege of knowing and growing with mama Jo. One of my earliest and most fond memories with these girls is when we were in 6th or 7th grade. Chelsea and I would be up to no good and somehow would get home from Thurman White middle school to their house on Belvedere. We had strict instructions to make sure we ate, started our homework, and DON’T make a mess! Joleen kept us stocked with our favorite snack: Pepsi, Caesar croutons, and Italian salad dressing. And even though we really sucked at following all the other rules, I always felt so loved and welcomed at their home and in Joleen’s presence. I’m so thankful for these early days I got to spend with these beautiful girls, as it has shaped the woman I am today. Joleen introduced me to what building trust looks like and ultimately “having ya girls’ back” between a mother and her girls. She would give us guidance, let us make choices, good or bad, and she was there to see us on the other side of those choices regardless of how much we fucked it up. Joleen’s ability to love over any other emotion will stick with me for life and I hope to honor her by aiming for similar strides in my life and who I choose to love. I will always look for her at every family gathering or party, always see her dancing when we get the honkey-tonk songs playing, and always feel her by my side when I have my toes in the water, ass in the sand, and a cold one in my hand.
Also, I wouldn’t ever be able to thank her enough for my chosen sister and partner in crime for life!! I’ll do my best to have her back as Joleen has had ours.
All my love,
PJ (your red-headed wild one)

The first time I met Joleen she was at the beach park watching Slater, running the rental property business remotely, and being the most beautiful woman ALL AT THE SAME TIME. I immediately saw where her daughter Chelsea had learned to triple-task being an amazing parent, business-woman, and maintaining fierce femininity simultaneously.
Joleen shined brighter than the Hawai’i sun and had an affinity about her that drew everyone to her.
What an injustice for the world for her to be taken from us too soon. My heart weeps for her family and for the all the little pieces of the world that are darker without her.
