Obituary for Johnye Williams

Johnye Godley Williams, 104, of Arlington Texas passed away on October 11, 2025. Johnye was born on March 3, 1921 in Cayuga, Texas to James Lawrence Godley and Willie Lou (Daniel) Godley. She had five sisters and one brother.

Johnye was a member of First Baptist Church in Grand Prairie, Texas and a long time staff member and member of Plymouth Park Baptist Church in Irving, Texas. She served the Lord as a Children’s and Pre-School Minister in several churches in Texas. She was an Irving, Texas High-Spirited Citizen in 1987. Johnye loved to play the dominoes game 42. She was known as the “Pecan Pie Queen” for the delicious pecan pies she made. Johnye loved to sew and made many dresses, pants, band and choir uniforms, Halloween costumes, etc. for her daughters and granddaughters throughout the years. Johnye crocheted many afghans for friends and family. Her project during the pandemic was to crochet baby blankets for her future great-grand children. She also crocheted many hats for the cancer centers in the DFW area. Johnye loved to sing and was a proud member of The Silver Serenaders of Texas, a senior adult choir. Johnye was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Rev. Dan Moody Williams, her son, Edward Wayne Williams;her sisters, Adora Smithen, Dorothy McDaniel, Willie Gunselman, Betty Jackson and her brother, James Lawrence Godley, Jr.  She is survived by her daughters: Ruth Cobb(Rick) of Arlington, Texas; and Debbie Williams of Roxton, Texas; and her sister Mary Little of Littleton, Colorado;

grandchildren: Cassandra Ali(Salim)), Gil Williams II, Melissa), Devon Williams, Rachel Cobb-Müller(Simon), Destany Mims, Carissa Williams(Xavier), Rebekah Inman (Jonathan), Nathan Williams(Jasmine), Anastasia Williams(Jonathan) Raven Williams, and great-grandchildren: Rihanna Williams, Devontre Williams, Journey Williams,LaKayla Mims, RJ Mims, Gil Williams III, McKenna Williams, Emma Cobb-Müller, Phoebe Inman, and Millie Cobb-Müller. She is also lovingly survived by numerous cousins,nieces and nephews. Johnye is survived by many friends whom she considered and treated like family.

Johnye was a veteran of World War II serving in the WAVES (Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service) a women’s branch of the U.S. Naval Reserve during World War II.

She was a graduate of Las Cruces High School in Las Cruces, New Mexico, University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, Arkansas, and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas.

A Celebration of Life will be held on November 22, 2025 at Plymouth Park Baptist Church 1714 N Story Road Irving, Texas 75061. The visitation will be at 9:00 AM with the service following at 10:00AM.

Johnye donated her body to UT Southwestern in Dallas. A special thanks to Community Healthcare of Texas for their hospice services during the last months of Johnye’s life.
