Johnel Cound Haigler, affectionally known as Noni, passed away June 28th, 2023 at Ochsner Hospital in New Orleans, LA. Noni was born July 26th, 1947 in Birmingham, AL to Johnel and John Douglas Cound. She attended Sydney Lanier High School in Montgomery, AL and Sullins College, the University of Alabama and after marriage matriculated at Hunnington College. She is preceded in death by her irascible but loveable husband, LaRue Haigler, Jr., her mother Johnel Loard, her step-father, Leon Loard and her brother, John Douglas Cound, Jr. She is survived by her son, LaRue Haigler, III and his wife Jennifer, her grandchildren Margaret Mackey Haigler and LaRue Haigler, IV of New Orleans, LA, Her loving siblings Richard Grover Allgood (Melissa) of McShan, AL and Joy Loard McRae (Arnold) of Birmingham, AL, and a number of nieces and nephews too many to individually name. Noni was a bon vivant, a culinary queen, a feisty spirit and an artist. She will be dearly missed. Her services will be held Saturday, July 1st at Church of the Ascension in Montgomery, AL. Visitation will be held at 10am followed by an 11am service. Immediately following the service there will be a procession to Hayneville Cemetery for her burial. A gathering will be held at Jake’s Fish Camp following the internment. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Virginia & LaRue Haigler Scholarship Fund through the Central Alabama Community Foundation at 114 Church St, Montgomery, AL 36104 to benefit college bound graduates of Lowndes County Public Schools.
