John's obituary

John Randall Wycoff, 60, beloved father, husband, son and brother, entered fully into the presence of his Lord and Savior on January 22, 2021, surrounded and comforted by his wife and daughter, following a brief and acute illness.

John was born in Compton, California in 1960, to Miles Wycoff of Pawnee Rock, Kansas and Joyce Wycoff (née Matthiesen) of Goodland, Minnesota. He was later joined by siblings Thomas (Tom), James (Jim) and Kathryn. John and his family escaped the smoggy Southern California of the 1960’s and following a summer road trip in 1969 in the family’s travel trailer spent traversing the United States, they moved to Sonoma County in search of fresh clean air and following in the footsteps of other relatives that had moved to this beautiful County. They settled in the outskirts of Santa Rosa in the rural countryside building the family home from the ground up.

John graduated from Piner High School in 1979 and returned to Southern California to attend Long Beach State University where he completed his Bachelor of Science in Engineering. John worked as a civilian for the United States government and the US Navy as an engineer on the modernization of battleships, submarines, and the occasional aircraft carriers in Long Beach, Puget Sound and then at Mare Island in Vallejo. He worked to retrofit the design of these submarines and ships to nuclear power - notably the USS Missouri.

John met his wife Megan in 2003 in San Francisco, California and they were married in 2004.In 2004 they welcomed beloved daughter Rachel Marie. In 2007 the family of three moved back to Sonoma County and settled in Windsor near family and friends.

John was devoted to his wife and daughter. He relished spending time and traveling with them on adventures near and far. His family meant everything to him. John also loved his favorite team the San Francisco 49ers and was an avid football fan, he enjoyed photography, travel, spending time with friends and family, and had a special bond with the family dog Daisy who waited faithfully each afternoon by the front door awaiting John’s return from work.

John had a deep and profound love of his Lord and Savior, and it shone through in his kindness, patience and thoughtfulness.

John is survived by his wife Megan Wycoff (née Rodriguez) of Windsor, California; daughter Rachel Wycoff of Windsor; mother Joyce Wycoff of Windsor; brother Tom Wycoff of Paradise, California; brother James Wycoff of Windsor sister Kathryn Marko (James) of Santa Rosa, California; niece Emily Wycoff of Paradise; nephew Joshua Wycoff of Chico, California; nephews Miles and Nicolas Wycoff, of Pullman, Washington; and father-in-law Willie Rodriguez of San Francisco. He was preceded in death by his father Miles Wycoff and mother-in-law Dolores Manthey.

John will be always in our hearts and never forgotten. The family would like to thank all who so faithfully prayed for John and the family during this difficult time.
