JR's obituary

John Russell “JR” Wuest Jr, also affectionately known as “Beast” in his youth, passed away on January 11, 2024 at Sherman Hospital in Elgin, IL at the age of 61 surrounded by family. JR was born and raised in the Chicago-land area. He was a fan of the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Blackhawks and made time to watch or listen to their games whenever he could. He frequently described himself as not being a people person, but could make friends just about anywhere he went. He would strike up conversations with strangers, and the people who knew him knew him as an incredibly friendly person. He made friends easily, and was the kind of person friends could always go to if they needed help. He was always there if there was something he could do to help a friend, even friends he hadn't known very long. His ability to connect with people was overshadowed only by his ability to connect with animals. Domesticated or not, JR had a way with animals who all seemed universally drawn to him and he to them. None more so than his beloved pets whom he adored and would spoil endlessly. JR worked in a few fields in his life, and spent 23 years with American Airlines as a member of the union until he retired. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He was proceeded in death by his beloved parents John Wuest Sr and Carol Wuest. He is survived by his three children, Bridget (31), Paul (29), and Casey (21), and his four year old rescue dog, Prancer. The family will not be holding services, as JR was not religious, however a celebration of life will be held at the home of Blair Natenberg, the mother of his children, on January 21. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Anderson Humane Society.
