Background

It is with deep pain and sorry that we announce the passing of "John Boy" Wetzel. My biggest brother, my Johnny two boots, the peaches to my "peaches and cream". On April 17th John lost control of his truck and was airlifted to ORMC. He spent a week in the trauma ICU. Despite numerous surgeries and therapies he continued to worsen. On April 25, 2021, John at only 41 years old and the father of two teenage children was removed from life support and passed away.
John was the salt of the earth and the light in a sometimes dark world. John became the peaches to my "peaches and cream" after one of his uncanny ways of making the darkness disappear. I'll never forget that day, I was in tears when I got home from school. He caught me in the hall as I was rushing to my room and asked me what was wrong. I told him, "There's a girl on the bus who is bullying me around and threatening to hurt me." John just gave me that smirking grin and said, "you tell her your big brother John and you are like peaches and cream, we go together. Tell her if she doesn't stop, she is going to have to deal with John. No one messes with peaches and cream." He gave me one of his big ole bear hugs and we just laughed my tears and fears away. John was my defender and protector. I knew John had my back which made me feel safer and gave me courage. It's my turn to have his back. It's our turn, all of us who loved him, to have his back.
John's loss is shocking and tragic. No one was prepared for it. Unfortunately, John and his wife were not financially prepared for such a loss either. John's children need our help and support now more than ever. If you knew John then you know he was a generous and hard working man. He would give anyone the shirt off of his back. If he didn't have a shirt, well he'd gladly find a way to fix the one you have better than new. John was talented, gifted, intelligent, hardworking, down right hilarious, and one of a kind. He could fix anything, build anything, and design some of the most incredible projects.
John touched the lives of so many. Unfortunately, his life these last few years was hard. He struggled but he was finally starting to find his footing again and now we've lost him. His kids have lost him. He needs us now to be the John he was to all of us that helped without request and fixed whatever was broken.
Please consider honoring John and his memory by donating to help his children while they deal with his loss. All funds will be used for the care of his children and future education. We thank everyone for the outpour of love and condolences. John will be greatly missed. His life was taken too soon and the sting of that loss will linger long after his funeral is over, especially for his children. Thank you for taking the time and assisting us in supporting his children.
