John's obituary

John Wall, age 85, peacefully entered into eternal rest, at home, surrounded by family. John was the beloved husband of 63 years to Ann (nee Callaghan) Wall; devoted father of Teresa (Robert) Beck, Kathleen Holtermann, Maureen (Neil) Feerick, Nancy Wall, John (Deborah) Wall, Bridget (Nick) Gilewski, and Megan Wall; son of the late James and Caroline Wall; brother of Richard (late Linda) Wall, Msgr. James Wall, Robert (Audrey) Wall, Elizabeth (Joseph) Pracitto, and Thomas (Karen) Wall. John was the loving grandfather of 17 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

John spent 45 years in banking in Buffalo, NY; working first for Liberty Bank and later for HSBC in the bankcard security and fraud prevention departments. For over 60 years he was a member of St. Martha (Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament) Catholic Church in Depew, where he sang in the choir, taught religious education, volunteered at the food pantry and tended to the church grounds and gardens. John and Ann were active members of Marriage Encounter/Image, where they made many of their closest friends.

He was a humble man who, through a lifetime of words and actions, encouraged others to show compassion and care for all, especially the disadvantaged and marginalized in the world. He volunteered his time to Habitat for Humanity and assisted in the resettlement of newly-arrived immigrants by volunteering at Jericho Road .

John's true passion was gardening; he and Ann spent countless hours tending to the plants, flowers and ponds in the gardens around their home. He shared this oasis by welcoming  passers-by to walk along the paths and bridges and enjoy the aromas of the flowers, feeding the fish or watching the waterfalls and fountains.

A memorial mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, February 28th at St. Martha Catholic Church, 10 French Road in Depew. All are invited to attend.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Hospice and Palliative Care of Buffalo.
