John's obituary

John Lewis Vinet AKA "Poppa John", went home to be with Jesus on Fri. Dec. 24, 2021 at the age of 79 years old.

John was born to the late Allen & Eunice Vinet on Oct. 31, 1942 in Chalmette, LA. As a child, he enjoyed spending summers with his grandparents in Zachary, LA, playing basketball and pool, and wood work.

John met his 1st wife, the late Nelda Jean Vinet in 1986. They married in 1989 and remained happilynmarried until Nelda's death in 1999. John met his 2nd wife, Kathy Marie Stodard years before they became an item. They began dating in mid 2005 and married on Christmas Eve in 2005. They remained happily married until Kathy's death in 2010.

In addition to being a dedicated and loving father, John also loved spending fun time with his great grandbabies, wood work, the horse races, gardening & cracking wise jokes. Throughout his entire life, he held an unwavering faith in God, which he shared with those who surrounded him.

Poppa John is survived by Children Christopher "CJ" Vinet, Wendi Price Griggs (Nealy "Bryan") Michael Stodard, Vanessa Stodard & Angel Clark. Sisters: Marlyn Fraychineaud, Linda Biddle, Darlene Vinet . Also survived is his grandchildren: Brianna Vinet, Nevaeh Vinet, D.J.Berns(Elizabeth), Dakota Brister, Karley Brister(Kyle) Kayla Sauls(Derrick), Destiny Griggs(Brandon), Chyanne Griggs(Brooklyn) Bryan Griggs(Arielle), Kylee Stodard, Xzavier Cousin, Xayda Cousin, Zane Smith, Brett Worsham & Colton Clark. Great grandchildren: Mia Analise Brister (aka Harry and Joe from Kokomo as he liked to call her), Bryson Louis Boudreaux, Kohen Ruegg, Jayleah Berns, Gauge Ward ,Grace Ward, Raina King, Cami Zahar, Stormee Sauls, Neveah Sauls,Grace Lynn Sauls,Abbitha Sauls, Bentley White, Nathanel Griggs,Landon Griggs, Ezekiel Vera. Proceeded in death by his parents Allen and Eunice Vinet, 2 wives Nelda Jean Vinet and Kathy Marie Vinet, 1 sister Janet Vinet, 1 son David Stodard, and 2 great grandsons Brody Wilcox Berns & Isaac Bosarge Berns.

John retired in 2002 as a chemist at Domino's Sugar Factory in Chalmette for 32 years. He was a US Vietnam Veteran having served in the US National Guard from 1967-1973. He was a dedicated member of The First Pentecostal Church of Slidell for the last 16 years.

A viewing will be held at HONAKER FUNERAL HOME on WEDS. DEC. 29 from 5:00PM - 7:30PM. Funeral services will be also at Honaker on THURS. DEC. 30 starting at 9:00AM with internment to follow in FOREST LAWN CEMETERY at 11:30AM with Brother Donald Bryan of First Pentecostal Church officiating.
