John's obituary

Celebrating A Life Well Lived

John F. Vaughan, 92, formerly of Summerville, SC, currently a resident of Travelers Rest, SC, established a new address with the Lord on February 25, 2025. 

Born March 4, 1932, in Saranac Lake, NY, he was the son of the late Alfred N. Vaughan and Leona Trudo Vaughan, and the loving husband of 61 years to Gwendolyn M. Vaughan. John and Gwen were members and served at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Goose Creek. Now retired, he was employed with General Electric in Syracuse, NY, for his entire career of 42 years.

His interests and hobbies included modern western square dancing, traveling and camping, fishing, hunting, serving in various PTA positions, church, and Director of Helping Hands.

His family remembers him as a sensible, upright and confident person, a diligent worker, a servant to his church and community, and someone who did everything with a bit of wit and a wry smile. 

He is preceded in death by his brother, Alfred Vaughan, a Purple Heart WWII veteran; his sisters Catherine Little, Mary Bliss, Ruth LePier, Leona Dashnaw, and Martha White.

Survivors include: 

1 sister: Dorothy Trevor of VA; his 2 daughters: Carol Clayton and husband Mark of Greenville, SC, and Karen Allen and husband David of Livingston, TX .

7 grandchildren, Dixie McClure and husband Ryan of GA, Ryan Allen and wife Shirley of TX, Erik Johnstone and wife Dagmar of SC, Douglas Clayton of TN, Lindsey Dukes and husband Billy of TX, Drew Clayton and wife Stephanie of SC, and Dylan Johnstone and Laz Camarillo of TX.

12 great grandchildren: Hunter and Hannah Allen; John, Kristen, and Bryce Dukes; Ilana Clayton; Hadley and Clay McClure; Andrew, Vyla, and Ayda Clayton; and Rio Camarillo-Johnstone.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on March 17, 2025, at 11:00 am at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Father Frank Palmieri will be officiating. Burial will follow at Plantation Memorial Gardens, Moncks Corner. The family will receive family and guests for a meal at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church social hall after the burial.
