John's obituary
John Dudley Strain Jr., 78, of Baltimore, Maryland, passed away peacefully with his wife, children and grandchildren by his side, on February 26, 2025, at dawn, after a long fight with cancer.
John was born on September 23, 1946 to John Dudley Strain Sr. and Ruth Johnson Strain in Baltimore, Maryland. After John graduated from Parkville High School, he served in the army in Vietnam. When he returned, he went on to college for several years and then pursued traveling across the country in a Volkswagen bus with his friend. John was a painter for many years painting homes and beautiful churches. John later began working at Lockheed Martin or “Martins”, where he became a toolmaker for over a decade. His years at Martins were rewarding. He loved his work and adored the many friends he made along the way.
In 1977, John found his soul mate Jenny. They were by each other’s side for 48 years, up until his last breath. John and Jenny had four children, George Strain, Chesna (Selway) Gore, John Dudley Strain III, and Loren Alena Strain, along with six grandchildren.
John retired from Middle River Aircraft Systems (Martins). He then spent his time singing and playing guitar, golfing, spending time working on his Volkswagens, enjoying his grandchildren, traveling with his adored wife and reminiscing with his many friends. John was the husband, father, grandfather and friend one can only hope to be. His kind heart and ability for everyone to love him was inspiring. When John played guitar and sang, he would light up any room.
John was predeceased by his father, John Dudley Strain Sr., his mother, Ruth Johnson Strain, his daughter, Loren Alena Strain, his brother, Timothy Clyde Strain, and his sister, Bonnie Ellen Yeager. John is survived by his wife, Jenny Strain, his son George Strain, his daughter Chesna (Selway) Gore, his son-in-law, Shawn Gore, his son John Dudley Strain III and his son John’s significant other, Brittney Gallion, along with his grandchildren, Taylor Gore (19), Kassidy Gore (14), Shawn Gore Jr. (12), John Dudley Strain IV (15), Blake Neiser (16), and Everly Strain (4).
