John's obituary
Following a protracted battle with cancer, John David Spencer died peacefully at his home on July 24, 2024. He was 84.
Born to the late Harold Bushrod and Elizabeth Jane Spencer of Bergen County, NJ on April 3, 1940, John grew up in Franklin Lakes. He was older brother to the late Jane DeFeo, who passed away earlier this year. John was a 1958 graduate of Ramapo High School, where he was a member of the football team and the drama club. John continued his studies at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill; Upsala College, and Fairleigh Dickenson University, in preparation for a career as a CPA and Financial Planner.
John was employed by Foster-Wheeler, Johanna Farms, Midland Glass and Nabisco during his lengthy accounting career, and was very proud to have served in the US Army Reserves. A life-long sports enthusiast, John faithfully supported both the NY Yankees and NY Giants, though he most enjoyed cheering for his children from the sidelines. John will be remembered for his unique sense of humor, his love of numbers, his green thumb, and his devotion to his family.
John is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Barbara Rose Spencer; their daughter, Alyssa Spencer and her partner Karl Espinosa of Scottsdale, AZ; their daughter Susan Spencer and her partner, Annie Escalante of Roselle, NJ; and two nieces, Elizabeth DeFeo and Julie DeFeo Holmes.
