We will never forget you John and never stop wishing you were still with us.  But in memorial to you and your strong and loving spirit, I will always remember you and your smile, your laughter, and your courageous heart.  We knew you from the time you were born and have so many great memories of you as you grew into someone that so many people would come to admire and love.  I think most of all I will recall your touching post not long before you went home to be with our Jesus.  You gave him all the praise for the courage you displayed in your battle.  You NEVER blamed Him.  You PRAISED HIM.  We lost you for now but you gained the healing through Christ that you can never lose.  And we WILL see you again.  Your faith in Jesus has saved you and us as we believe in Him like you did.  Tears of Joy will come in the morning, through our Faith in JESUS.  I love you John!   So proud to have you as my nephew and HERO!

Remembering you today, John, with a heavy heart, and missing your presence, your glowing personality and beautiful heart.  I cannot believe a year has gone by, but knowing when we talked, that you were spiritually ready to meet Jesus your Savior, gives me peace today that you are safe with the Lord, highly treasured, and joyous beyond anything we could imagine.  My love to your Mom, Dad and Sarah.  Until we meet again soon...Aunt Denise

I met John in grade 3 when he moved to Windsor, went to my school and lived about 2 blocks away.  As kids he was always big John, I remember thinking my gosh he's tall, I was prolly 4 ft tall and he was closer to 6ft.  I felt like I had my own personal bodyguard.  We walked to school every morning.  Played a lot of football, probably the only time I didn't feel safe was when he was on the other team :).  And we played a lot of NES namely Tecmo Super Bowl.

He moved back home after grade school, but then came back for the latter half of high school and we reconnected like he never left.  I started to get to know his U.S. friends better as they visited for the Canadian culture(read lower drinking age ;) ).  And would occasionally join him for some tailgate parties at Michigan State games and other parties once it was legal ;)

Despite moving back to the US in our mid 20's, we always kept in touch.  He stood in my wedding and I in his, he was an easy choice as our son's Godfather and remained near to the very end.  He was a rare friend to have and will be dearly missed.

Happy earthly Birthday, my cousin.. We miss you so much..  We are still at loss for words, missing your comforting, reassuring presence here on earth, but happy that you are in peace and glory.  In your honor today, I know you would tell us to make the most of every moment and to reach out to somebody (or everybody we know) and tell them that we love them... so that's what I'm going to do, John.  We who are alive and remain currently on earth, I will find those around me and tell them I love them as a remembrance of you.  💘

Love you, always, sweet John.

Pastor spoke on this at our beloved John's Memorial ❤ such a rich scripture❤

Romans 8

New King James Version

Free from Indwelling Sin

8 There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death. 3 For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, on account of sin: He condemned sin in the flesh, 4 that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. 5 For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. 6 For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. 7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be. 8 So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God.

9 But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His. 10 And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. 11 But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.

Sonship Through the Spirit

12 Therefore, brethren, we are debtors—not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. 13 For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. 14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. 15 For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.” 16 The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, 17 and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.

From Suffering to Glory

18 For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. 19 For the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly waits for the revealing of the sons of God. 20 For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of Him who subjected it in hope; 21 because the creation itself also will be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God. 22 For we know that the whole creation groans and labors with birth pangs together until now. 23 Not only that, but we also who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, eagerly waiting for the adoption, the redemption of our body. 24 For we were saved in this hope, but hope that is seen is not hope; for why does one still hope for what he sees? 25 But if we hope for what we do not see, we eagerly wait for it with perseverance.

26 Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. 27 Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God.

28 And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. 29 For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren. 30 Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified.

God’s Everlasting Love

31 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32 He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things? 33 Who shall bring a charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies. 34 Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us. 35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? 36 As it is written:

“For Your sake we are killed all day long;

We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.”

37 Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. 38 For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, 39 nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord."

❤ Johnny loved the we are "More Than Conquerors" part ❤ ... of course he did 🥰

I knew John from our time spent together working to protect and expand gun rights. He was as good of an activist as has ever lived. People with anything near his level of clarity, courage, charm, morals and dedication are the rarest of the rare breeds. He consistently elevated those around him to betterment. I find great comfort knowing he succeeded in leaving the world much better than he found it and had a lot of fun doing it.

"Fear Is Not My Future (you are!)

Sickness is not my story (You are, You are!)

Heartbreak's not my home (You are, You are)

Death is not the end, (Jesus) You are! (He's the Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the End)

Hello peace, hello joy, hello love

Hello strength, hello hope

It's a new horizon!

Let Him turn it in your favor.

Watch Him work it for your good

He's not done with what He's started

He's not done until it's good.

If you're ready for a breakthrough

You can just open up and just receive

'Cause what He's pouring out

Is nothing, nothing

You've ever seen, you've ever seen

Hello peace, hello joy, hello love

Hello strength, hello hope

It's a new horizon

Can you see it? See it?

The sun is rising can you see it?

Fear is not my future, You are!

Sickness is not my story (You are, You are!)

Heartbreak's not my home (You are, You are)

Death is not the end, (Jesus) You are!

Goodbye fear, goodbye guilt

Goodbye shame (bye bye, bye bye)

Goodbye pain, goodbye Grave

It's a new horizon!

Let the light in, let the light on in

It's the morning time now, where His mercy's a new.

It's the morning time now, where the weeping has to end.

It's the morning time.  Wake up wake up. Get up, Get up.

Joy is coming in the morning, that's right now, it's the morning time when you open your eyes of your understanding

You don't have to wait on the clock, it's morning right now.

Stop mouring, bc it's the morning time."

I want to express my sincerest condolences to John’s family. I first met John in high school, even though we didn’t go to high school together. He was a friend of a friend, but we quickly became friends. Life took us on different paths after high school, but the memories we made together will forever hold a special place in my heart. I’ll always remember the good times we shared whether it was driving around Sterling Heights in Donnie’s Camaro blasting Tupac or those late nights playing pool in Big Bob's basement. John genuinely cared about those around him and always saw the positive side in everyone and in every situation. The world lost a good one. You will be missed my friend.
John you were a great man. Even though I was younger than all of you and you were my brothers friend. You always treated me like a little brother. From swimming, to world cup soccer in the backyard and football. Always calling me Biggie Smalls and hanging out at the cottage in lexington. Truly a class  act and will be greatly missed. Rest easy brother. God needed a great soldier in his army.
