John was a unique person who made everyone he met feel special. He certainly did for me! I will miss him and my heart will be with those that are able to attend and that are hurting from this loss.

The last time that John and I were roomates, the neighbor had a dog. There were no fences between our yards. Kirby was named after Kirby Pucket for his posterior and Kirby vacuums for the way he liked to eat. He was a Blue Heeler/Austraiian Shephard mix with tons of energy. I always said that our household shared Kirby and if we were in the backyard he would be hanging out with us.
Kirby's primary owner liked baseball and would throw balls for Kirby until he could not throw any more. John and I played frisbee a lot and decided to teach the dog to play. It took a lot of effort from the two of us to teach Kirby not to run to the frisbee handler and try to bite the disc out of the throwers hands. One of us would hold Kirby about 20 feet away while the other tapped on the disc twice before throwing. When the, "tap tap" happened the other would run away from the disc thrower with Kirby in tow....over and over and over again.
He was a hard headed dog, but he was up against two harder headed teachers.
Of course Kirby finally figured it out. Nothing made Kirby more excited than seeing the frisbee come out.
