Elliott's obituary
John “Elliott” Pfeiffer
December 17, 1937 – August 7, 2024
It is with a heavy heart and a smile that we announce the passing of John “Elliott” Pfeiffer, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, who passed away peacefully at the age of 86 on August 7th, 2024, in Charlotte, NC. Born on December 17, 1937, in Buffalo, NY, Elliott was the son of the late Arthur Pfeiffer and Margaret Elliott Pfeiffer.
Elliott grew up in Buffalo, NY, alongside his sister Patricia D’Ambrosia, and graduated from Kensington High School before pursuing further education at Alfred State University. After his studies, Elliott answered the call to serve his country, in the United States Army.
After his military service, Elliott embarked on a successful career as a supervisor at the Hartford Insurance Agency. However, most will know him for owning and operating the family business Pfeiffer Sporting Goods in Hamburg, NY. His passion was always sports. He loved serving the community by providing jerseys, baseball gloves, and more, even when they couldn’t afford it – he would offer credit or trade believing there was more to business than money.
But most will remember him for his spontaneous wit. Elliott could bring a smile to anyone’s face; customers, neighbors, strangers, and the Little Leaguers he coached. His character, charm, and humility made him easy to be around and his infectious good-hearted nature made you walk away feeling at ease.
Elliott was also a man of faith, guided by his strong Catholic morals, which shaped his integrity and kindness throughout his life. His second Sunday devotion was to his beloved Buffalo Bills, enduring many ups and downs with his team, which mirrored his own life. No one could question his ability to fight through multiple health issues and surgeries. And, as testament to his character, in the face of these struggles, his humility and humor shone through always making sure his caretakers and friends were smiling.
He was a devoted husband to Ann Pfeiffer, an ever-proud father to his son, Andy Pfeiffer, and daughter-in-law Jessica Pfeiffer, and a doting grandfather to Elliott and Quinn Pfeiffer. He leaves his nephew Joe D’Ambrosia, his wife and daughter, Lisa and Maia, along with a host of friends and extended family members who will forever cherish his memory.
A service to celebrate Elliott’s life will be held on August 23rd at 4PM, 200 Foster Ave. Charlotte, NC.
And a Mass of Christian Burial will be held on October 26th at 10am, St. Peter and Paul Church in Hamburg NY.
In lieu of flowers and food, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Elliott’s memory to the Buffalo City Mission or a charity of your choice.
Elliott’s legacy will be remembered in the laughter we shared, the warmth he provided, and the inspiring character of selfless resilience he gave us. As he said, “it'll all work out in the end, and if it hasn’t worked out, it’s not the end”.
