About 20 years ago we were part of a small private tour of Neibaum-Coppola estate winery.when I asked the a\general manager (leading the tour) if he knew John Peters, he fell all over himself praising all the detailed records that John had written, and that he stilll referred to them with great admiration.

About that time Laura invited us to Thanksgiving at their home in Calabasas. We took the train down, and enjoyed a magnificent feast of John’s turkey and dressing, Laura’s broccoli salad and an overwhelming array of side dishes and desserts and great wine. A memorable not to be forgotten event.

Throughout all the experiences with John, he always impressed me with his courtly manner, a little formal, but deeply caring way of making a drink, or holding the door, or making a wisecrack. One of a kind, giving lessons of quiet strength and resourcefulness. I am reminded this day of favorite Walt Whitman words…..”failing to fetch me at first, keep encouraged; missing me one place, search another…..I stop somewhere, waiting for you.”

While we can't be there physically to celebrate John's life with family and friends, we will continue to celebrate him - his open heart, his thoughtfulness, his amazing curiosity and willingness to try new things - his embracing of all the wonders life offers - his devotion to the people he kept close.  What an inspiration.  Thank you John for being there and for showing us the way.  Best  to Laura, the girls  ad everyone.  Jeanne & Max
I was privileged to be hiking a couple of times with John and our spouses. No youngster myself, I often struggle for the right word, as John did. When one of us got stuck he would throw out related words and ideas in the hope the other person would get the real one. It was satisfying and fun. These experiences were bonding events I will never forget.
I have known John since his Yale Law School Days, where he made a profound impression on me as well as on a lot of others. I have three favorite memories of John. First, his strong devotion to his New College classmates -- how he paid such close attention to keeping these deep friendships nurtured, with constant postcards and letters. Second, he always traveled back then with his 8 mm video camera, with which he took rapid fire still shots, rather than actual videos. You could see an entire country's pictures in 3 minutes or less. A third favorite memory of John was walking through the Yale campus one weekend back in 1972 and seeing a sidewalk art display of original acetate prints from the Beatles' Yellow Submarine Movie. The prints were for sale, and they were very expensive for a poor law student. He was closely examining a number of them that featured the "blue glove" character. I asked John why he was planning to spend so much money on one and where would he even hang it. He looked at me and said "I am not buying this for me. I am buying this for my sister. I just know she would love it." Yes, those are my memories of John: he was always thinking of those that he loved.

Cherishing the fond memories. Sending love to John's family and friends.
I love that so many people have mentioned his kindness. What a tribute.

Comforting fatherly company at the Peters’ kitchen table on Sunday mornings. Slight rustling of the newspaper. Freshly cooked green tea waffles.

His gratitude for his family and friends often shown through delicious meals—crafted with care, and enjoyed alongside his humble wisdom.

Vivid memories that bring absolute warmth and joy to revisit.

We first met when I applied for the job of his assistant at Zoetrope. I had photo grey auto darkening eyeglasses which were new on the market. I sat looking into the bright window behind him. Unbeknownst to me, my glasses looked like I was wearing shades throughout the entire interview. He hired me despite this. Soon after I started work he asked me why I chose to wear sunglasses to my interview. This was the first I was aware of my faux pas. I was glad to discover that he was open minded enough to hire me based on my credentials despite appearing to be “too cool for school” by not removing my shades for the interview.

We met a Zoetrope Studios where he was Chief Counsel and i was VP Studio Facilities.
We were together for 3 years before the studio went into bankruptcy and I left. Over the years we would meet for lunch with Alex Carter who was in VP of Labor Relations.

In response to "How did you first meet John?"
I love John. He was my mentor,  example and most of all, my friend.
